I shouldn't be posting here

I shouldn't be posting here - 09/24/04 05:42 AM

Atleast not this soon. I have never lost a glider before and tonight I lost Snowflake. She left behind her 5 week old joey Everest, her sister Sunshine, and their mate Sebastian. They are at my old condo while I am still painting my new condo. I fed them and gave them new water on Tuesday night, my sister fed them last night, but didn;t check their water. I must of screwed the water bottle cap on wrong and the bottle leaked. Snowflake died if dehydration. I rushed her to the animal hospital a half an hour away. I signed the papers to pay the $1800 it would cost to save her, but the doctor came running out to stop me.. it was too late, she had gone to the bridge. It isn't fair, for her, for me, for her cage mates, for her baby... I wish I could have done more.

I'm so sorry, Jessie. I never know quite what to say after reading such horrible news. You and the cage mates she left behind will be in my thoughts. (((Hugs)))

I am at loss for words. I know nothing can take away the pain of losing a suggie. I lost Loki almost two months ago and it still brings tears to my eyes to think of him. Just remember that your baby doesn't blame you and you aren't alone. I send many hugs and lots of love to you and your little ones.

Oh Sweetie, my heart aches for your loss, as Mambo went over April 23rd, & I've never felt such heart ache.
Today I rec'd a passage from my-ex actually, & it seems fitting to share with you...

"It takes a minute to find a special companion, 1 hour to appreciate them, 1 day to love them, but an ENTIRE lifetime to forget them."

Even through the pain of your loss, you can feel blessed that you had such a love, where most will never have the opportunity nor the memories...

I am so sorry to read about the loss of Snowflake. It's very difficult to lose our babies but, please know that the most recent arrivals at the Rainbow Bridge are taken care of by the others.

I have a feeling you'll be "hearing" from her soon.

That is terrible! I think that is the reason I lost Willow's mate a long time ago. But mine was worse because there WAS water in the bottle, the ball just wouldn't let any of it out. Hugs to you, I know this is hard. I've been there too many times already.

I am so sorry for your loss. Losing an animal can be so hard. It's especially hard when you don't get to say goodbye. But I am praying for you and all your other gliders and Snowflake's baby. That you all will find peace of heart and know that she is in a good place now.

Re: I shouldn't be posting here - 09/25/04 12:35 PM

Jessie, the good thing here is that you will never, ever let that happen again. Like with my Godfrey, we learn from our mistakes, and we CAN learn from the costly, agonizing mistakes of others. This was hard to post, I know, and I'm sure there are gliders whose lives will be saved by it. I'm so sorry. I looked in your gallery, and saw a beautiful picture of Snowflake. I know how you feel, and I'm very sorry.

Re: I shouldn't be posting here - 09/25/04 01:08 PM

first let me say how very sorry i am for your loss.
Please donnot beat your self up over this mistake as it has happened with others before you and surely will happen again as sad and tragic as it may be becuase accidents do happen.
i know of several ppl who have had tragedy or caught it before too late involving water bottles, while it is possible to screw it on wrong sometimes often it has worn out or become defective, which really in those cases is a manufacturing problem.
Some ppl choose water bottles as a sole source becuase they fear drowning in dishes.like the cleaner look to them or find it easier.
BUT shallow wide dishes are usually quite safe.
I recomend and have also done so myself that gliders be offered either a shallow wide dish for water or both a dish and bottle, only becuase there have been so many instances of bottles failing, and the shallow dishes are quite safe and aslong as the dish is appropriately sized the risk of a drowning is almost nil.
Using a dish or both a dish and bottle will help prevent the tragedies in the future of faulty bottles.
Bottles need to be checked daily due to the risk of failure in them.
I use both so that my joeys are exposed to using a water bottle but my gliders seem to prefer the dishes and some will not go near the bottles so for me its always worked to use the dishes anyways and bottles were more just for the sake of exposure and a back up water source 'just incase'.

Oh Jess, I'm so very sorry. The Bridge is a magical place where Snowflake is surrounded by beauty and friends. I know your heart is aching and I can't help but hurt with you. Try to let the healing begin as Snowflake watches over you and her little family.

Re: I shouldn't be posting here - 09/25/04 07:09 PM

I am so so sorry to hear of your loss. How were you to know. I have made it a habit when I change the water bottle I put it in the cage, squirt out a ittle water to make sure it is working and wait to see if there is any excess drips and then I am satisfied after that. I am very sorry and my thoughts and prayers are with you. Just remember it is not something you did intentionally, it was an accident so please don't beat yourself up for it.

Take care and hugs to you.

Re: I shouldn't be posting here - 09/25/04 07:17 PM

Thank you all some much for your kindness, I appreciate it more than you all will ever know

Annie's dad, your writing is beautiful, of course I couldn't hold back from crying, but it was a good cry, like I knew she was alright.

Snowflake's sister Sunshine and their mate Sebastian have been taking care of Snowflake's baby just like she would have wanted it. I tear up seeing the 3 of them in that pouch, because I know there should be 4. I don't think I will ever get over losing snowflake, but I know it has to get easier

Re: I shouldn't be posting here - 09/25/04 10:35 PM

I hope it helps you to know that maybe you've kept this from happening to another glider. I am a glider newbie (Peepers came home Tuesday). After reading your post, I will definitely be keeping two sources of water in my baby's cage. Hopefully if one fails the other won't. Thanks for posting your story.

Jessie,
I'm sorry for your loss. It is so hard to deal with but I have to say that reading Annie's Dad's story but my mind at ease. So many of us have lost our beloved gliders and it's just so nice to believe they are in that enchanted place.

Re: I shouldn't be posting here - 10/03/04 05:45 AM

Jessie,
i just found out as i read yoiur signature today. I'm so very sorry this happened to you out of all people. Please rest assured that Snowflake is fine, and at least she did have a very loving home before she went. She will be happy to see you again someday, and greet you with a nice facehug...I'm glad that Everest is taken care of lovingly by the rest of the family. You know, i wondered why it was Snowflake that went, and it dawned on me, that had she not been nursing, she probably would have lived like Sunshine and Sebastian. She was depleted faster i think, cause of her nursing. I'm glad tho, that it happened now, and not earlier, when you could have possibly lost Everest too due to him being younger back then. And at least you do have an offspring out of the two... Tho i know i too wish it would never have happened. I'm so sorry...
