HeartBroken in KY - 12/11/03 06:19 AM

I got my new babies 2 months ago, they have been together since they where 8 weeks oop...they are now about 10 months old...this morning there was a terrible accident in my home.
One of my babies got out of its cage, and ended up at the bottom of the steps in my house...When I went to look at the cage after I heard my baby crying my suggies had somehow got one of there toys stuck under the big door in their cage which left a crack for them to get threw...I guess he tried to glide and didnt make it, I went down the steps picked him up and held him in my hands and he was still alive, held him close to me and within about 2 minutes he was dead...Not sure what to think or what to do.
I have cried all day long and held my other baby all day long...So worried that my other baby will grieve and be so lonely....can anyone tell me why he wouldnt have been able to glide..

kyglider,
I'm so sorry about your little one. It's so hard to lose them to an accident. They are so curious and sometimes determined to escape, there's not much we can do after ensuring their cage is safe and secure. You took the best possible care of him that you could. There is no way to know what happened, or why he had trouble gliding. Be sure that his brother/sister see's the body and is allowed to say goodbye, they will adjust to his death a LOT easier. Give them lot's of attention and love, it's going to take some time to adjust to his loss, and he's going to need lot's of attention from you!
Hugs, He's over the bridge now, waiting for you, and I'm quite sure not having any problem whatsoever with gliding!

I do not think the loss was due to not being able to glide. Do you by chance have other pets in the house?

My only suggestion is to have the remaining glider vet checked for wellness to ease your mind of possible illness.

As for being a lone glider...spend extra time with him on a daily basis and also with playtime in the evening.

May time heal your broken heart.

Thanks so much to all of you that have replied to my post, I'm still just setting here crying holding my other suggie.
I hate to leave him alone all night in his cage by himself as I dont want him to be lonely...Do you think he will be alright? He's eating out of my hand and looking around just not sure he realizes his best buddy is gone...Do I get another right away for him? They usually played all night long and then when I got up in the morning they would be in their wodent wheel just having a ball...I would set and talk to them and play with them....just not sure what to do..

My advise is to wait till at least till he has been checked out by a vet to make sure he is well. Gliders often look fine and signs of illness are very subtle until a crisis developes or worse yet...goes undetected and suddenly dies.

Once he is checked out...then start looking for a friend for him.

I plan on taking him to my vet in the morning, I'm praying he is fine....When I adopted my babies they where taken to a vet right after I got them...They where given a clean bill of health then and I'm just sure that he treid to go down the steps maybe just being curious and did not make it..for some stange reason I feel his back or something was broke!!! but when I picked him up he was still alive, scared and crying, but within minutes he died...Very confusing to me...Thanks for your advise which I will take.
Hope to find My other babie a freind...

I am so sorry for your loss. Take comfort in that you got to him before he passed, and he was held by one he knew loved him. His last moments were not alone and scared, but with you.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/upset.gif" alt="" />
