I lost herold tonight. - 03/08/01 09:39 AM

I lost one of my gliders about ten o'clock tonight, His name was Herold and he was one of my best friends.
Herold was one of two gliders that I own. He was a very Mischievious little guy. He liked to cause trouble wherever we would let him. He loved to Stal lettuce from my girlfriend while she was making a salad but he always made up for it by crawling into her lap and going to sleep while she watched TV. Herold loved to jump off the top of the TV and land on the couch. Just like alot of gliders he would do this over and over again until I either put him back in his cage or he got tired. Tonight he jumped off the TV and missed the couch and slammed into the leg of the Coffee table. I imediately picked him up and made sure he was alright. Hit nipped me in the usual way because he hated to be bothered while he was playing. I put him back in his cage and he just kinda sat there. The other glider Marty was kinda taking care of him like gliders do. About an hour later he was still in the same place but laying down. I played with him a little and he perked up so I figured he was going to be ok. He kept getting worse and when I finally figured out that he was hurt bad, it was too late. He died in my hand. He was my friend and he trusted me and I feel I let him down. Be careful with your gliders, you never know what can happen.
I am so sorry about your loss. I have learned that our gliders are our friends, and losing them is a tremendous loss. People have told me over and over "it was an accident," but there's still this, "What could I have done differently?" One thing is sure. You had a happy glider who knew you loved him. I read so much on these boards about gliders who have been mistreated and neglected and traumatized. Your glider died doing something he'd done lots of times before and loved to do. Please take care of yourself. I'm so sorry.

Remember, while he was alive, he was happy! Don't blame yourself. It is so easy for them to get a head injury and he probably didn't realized that he himself was hurt that bad and was dazed. I too lost my glider in early November 2000 and it still hurts... Just smile when you cry for all the good times the two of you had and for all the love the two of you shared. He has made two new friends and is awaiting the day for your arrival for when you will cross that bridge and come to play with him once again...
