My Barnie ran away. Please Help Please - 03/03/03 05:23 AM

Its been a few days already since my little SG ran away. I tried putting her fav. food around the house, but they were all untouched. I live on the 4th floor, and the windows were open. Do you think she could have jumped out? there are trees outside .. Oh no oh no, i wish she would just appear. Please help me, any tips on how to find her will be greatly appreciate. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

I imagine that you live in a warmer climate than I if you had the windows open this time of year. The only thing I know to tell you to do is to sit with the lights out in the rooms and listen for her. I had one glider get loose in the house and when I did this I managed to hear her in a dresser drawer. I sure hope she didn't get outside, but that could be a possibility. I'm so sorry you must me just totally undone. I know I would be. Big hugs coming your way. You and your glider will be in our thougths and prayers. Please keep us updated.

Yes, it is warm here. Past 2 nights, I have been sitting in the dark until 4am, hoping to hear her, and only once I thought i heard a scratch. but it wasn't her. Last night i also went down to the lawn with a bowl of yoghurt in hand, calling out to her. Nothing. Is it possible she could have jumped out the window? its 4 stories high though. How can i lure her down from the trees (she could be in any of them!)?

I am sorry marrymoo, I wish this would never happen to any of our gliders. I don't know what to tell you though Just don't give up if you think she is still out there. I think there is a possiblitly that she jumped out the window, but I really don't know. My thought are with you, I hope you find her

Do they wander far away? - 03/03/03 08:43 AM

Even if she did jump into the open, is it true that they usually don't run very far, but stay within a certain area only?? I will try looking for her outside among the bushes and trees tonight.

My prayers are with you for her safe and quick return. As mentioned in the other post, try putting a few pouches around the tree, perhaps by the window as well.

Good luck!

In the past when people have lost gliders outside, they have moved the glider's cage outside with their pouch hanging and they usually found them in the pouch the next morning. Hopefully this will work for you.

Thank you everyone for your helpfulness. I really appreciate it. I hope barnie comes back soon. I wished I knew which tree she was on , I wouldn't hesitate to climb 20 feet if that meant I could reach her and bring her home. THANK YOU all for your support, and do let me know of any new ideas you all may have..

Marymoo,

I had a glider get out and was on his own for 3 days and two nights. Besides placing his cage, food and pouch outside in the general location, I also went outside around the time he normally woke up and called his name and just talked. On the third night he came and found me. I really hope that Barnie finds his way home soon. Keep us updated.

MaryMoo,
I wished I lived closer, so I could help find you little girl, Barnie. I have been known to hunt-down gliders in trees (Rowdy decided to take a flying leap once). Where exactly are you located, if you can tell us?? What kind of food stuffs are there around where you are (ie...fruit trees, resteraunts, etc.)??? You might try those places also, along with any trees in that area. What kind of siding is on your building?? Wood siding, vynal siding, brick??? If your building has either wood siding, or brick, you way want to try looking around the roof. Look around air vents, a/c compressors, that sort of thing. Also look anywhere she might be able to get into...EVERYWHERE!!!!

Let us know if you find her!!!! We are all praying for you, and Barnie's safe return!!!

Is there any update here? Did you find her? OR are you still looking? You might put up signs in case someone found her and kept her. Let people know you are looking for her. Good Luck, my dogs escaped once and were gone 4 days, so I can imagine the worry you are going thru. Remember they are more resilient than we give them credit for and stronger, she's probably fine, but wanting her mommy as much as her mommy wants her!

I would be really curious to know if you tried placing the cage outside. I had an 8 week old rat get outside one time and he spent a whole night out, I placed his cage out under the bushes and within 20 minutes he was in it. I was SO grateful! I am proof the cage thing DOES work! At least with some animals.

I have a glider that was found outside a vet's office. They don't know how long she had been outside before she was found. You might also put up flyers around the area -- people may see your glider and not know what it is or what to do with it.

Please keep us updated. I'm so sorry. I would be just frantic with worry, and I know you are, too. I wish we could do more for you.

[:"purple"] [/] I'm so sorry for your loss. I wonder, have you asked any of your neighbors to keep an eye out, or if they have seen any unusual animals or heard noises in their ventilation systems, walls, etc? Maybe you could put up flyers-if you don't have a picture of your little one, I'm sure you could find one that looks close. I would be more than happy to make a flyer for you and send it by e-mail. To people that don't own a glider, they pretty much look alike-at least they would know what they were looking for. You are welcome to e-mail me at xfilefanj9@yahoo.com
. (I've done flyers for all kinds of things-kind of a weird hobby). Anyway, I really hope you find your little one. I'll keep you in my prayers. Don't give up hope! [:"purple"] [/]

No, it couldn't be my Barnie. We live far far away..

BUT If all of you could say a little prayer, before you go to bed everynight, for Barnie that the angels will bring her home, I will really appreciate it. Thank you.
