MY BABY DIED

Ok here is my story. I have had my sugar gliders for 3 weeks. I bought a male and female, 3 years old. Female had two joeys in her pouch. They were my first set of gliders. And oh man i never could have expected any thing so wonderful as these two are! They are a glider owners dream. The best gliders! So friendly and accepting. I love them so much. Gadget and side kick. Saturday night i woke up to find my little girl was missing from her cage. So we searched high and low for her, hours we spent at 6 am looking for her. I was getting upset because i could not find her. That was when we found her. Dead. On the floor. She had gotten out of her cage. And ironically enough, a cat had gotten into the house. We do not have cats, im highly allergic to them. A cat had gotten in and gotten my little girl. I looked down and noticed her pouch moving. This is when my husband and i looked up at each other and relised duuuhh the babys in her pouch. So we had to remove the babys. VERY HARD THING TO DO. To have to do this to out little girl. So we remove the babys from her pouch. The babys didnt want to let go of her nipples, and we had to CUT them off, leaving a bit of nipple in their mouths. We rushed them to the vet and the vet gave us formula and told us to feed them every hour and keep them warm. He said it didnt look good. They are VERY small and pink, with no fur at all. So i brought them home and fed them EVERY HOUR.. DAY AND NIGHT. Kept them on a heating pad and covered. (we eventually got the nipple out of their mouth) They were no bigger than the tip of your pinky. I have pictures, if youd like to see, email me and i will send them to you. I lost them both. They both died. this has been a VERY painful experiance for us all. The one we are most worryed about is our male who is 3 and always had a mate, and just lost her. I have buried 3 gliders this week, and i never knew it could hurt so much. I never knew holding this little life in your hands one minute, and seeing them dead the next, so small they never even had a chance at life, could hurt so much.

Isn't that the most awful thing to have to go through? I know the pain of losing a glider, and my very special 16-year-old cat passed away about a year ago. It's just heartwrenching. There's something so innocent about animals, and that you're responsible for their well-being makes it hard to deal with when they die. But so many things are beyond our control, and I guess that's one of the reasons so many people believe in a greater power. I have to believe they go to a better place, and they're up there somewhere, very happy and peaceful.<P>That's a long way of saying that I'm sorry for your loss []http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/sad.gif[/]

I'm so sorry for your loss of mama and joeys. I know it isn't really any comfort, but the joeys were so small that I don't think anyone would have been able to keep them alive []http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/sad.gif[/]

I dont think any one could have either. But that didnt stop me from doing EVERY THING in my power to try.

I completely understand trying, I've been there myself. The youngest glider I've ever managed to keep alive was 2 days oop. I've never had any success with younger ones, though that hasn't stopped me from staying up for days at a time working on it. It still hurts just as much when these hopeless little guys don't make it []http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/sad.gif[/]

I am sorry, I just recently lost two of my Sugar gliders, both horrible deaths, I deeply understand your pain and I am sorry for you, I did post my story on here so you can see what happened to me. I hope you are well and take care of yourself. <BR>

Im so very sorry...I know that you must feel tremendous pain.I lost a very much loved pet in september.Although it wasnt a "human",it sure hurt like it was.I didnt look upon him as a pet,he was family! My baby died also while pregnate, we took the babys off the nipple and called a friend with a pregnate glider and put one of them in her pouch hoping that the baby would find a nipple and we kept the other for a 50/50 chance. The one baby we supplemented had died but the other baby is still alive and doing well. We will be getting it back early febuary after it is fully weaned.
