I saw the other thread about biting problems, but I didn't want to hijack it, so I started a new one.

My Kirby just turned a year old last month and he is an incorrigible biter. Lately he's been biting my hands (finger tips, knuckles, skin between my fingers, palms of my hand, everything), but he has also bitten me on my chest and on the back of my neck several times. He probably makes me bleed at least 50% of the time.

He also bites my boyfriend (he bit him on the arm last night and broke the skin) and anyone else who I might have over.

I always make sure my hands are washed with unscented soap. I've tried distracting him with treats or feather toys - that only works part of the time. I try tsk-ing at him and telling him "no." While that will get him to stop some of the time, it still isn't preventing the initial bite. Sometimes it doesn't stop him and he keeps chomping down until I pull him off. I also never pull my hand away.

Aside from this biting, I consider Kirby to be pretty bonded to me. We have nightly play time with DeeDee. He comes when called, and gets excited to see me. I don't consider his behavior aggressive, but I feel like it's more akin to a child being a brat. A lot of the time he will bite me once, hard, then run away. There's usually not a lot of anticipating it - sometimes he will lick a bit before he bites, but usually it just happens.

Also Dee likes to lick my hands. When Kirby sees her doing that, he will run over to my hand, as well, and just bite me.

It's really frustrating and now I'm seeking advice. I'm tired of my fingers always feeling sore! I also want him to stop biting my visitors!

I still get bitten, especially by my Merlin. The biggest disincentive I've found if picking him up moving him physically. Reward him when he plays nice, relocate when he doesn't (without separating him from you). I don't get bitten often & it stops once he is 'surprised' at being picked-up.

Sadly, it sounds like it's become a pattern that he kept after the younger biting phase, which means there is not a fast way to stop it; it's retraining now. The good news is it is possible smile It will require still more patience from you, but show him what you don't like & a better way.
