Prompted by another thread, it reminded me. If you have long hair, please make sure you secure your hair in rubber bands, braids or something when playing with your gliders. Make sure you check pouches for strands of hair too.

Hair is a very thin but semi strong fiber that can, like threads/strings, wrap around a gliders toes, hands, feet, neck etc and can cause the same type of injury that threads can. But the hair is harder to see so the injuries can go unnoticed longer making them more severe.

Please, if you have long hair, use some care to protect your gliders from injuries.

Nice post Teresa. This is something that's actually serious and doesn't ever get brought up. thumb

Hmm I have never thought about this, I have very long hair and will definitely use more caution with my babies.

I have the same problem with my baby! Even though I do keep my hair pulled back he seems to always manage to get a loose strand wrapped around his fingers. Gotta keep a check on those fingers and toes!!

I shed so bad and I don't have long hair well its little past my chin but still long enough for toes to get tangled. But even after I wash anything of theirs I do a double double check because I have found me(hair) floating around in pouches even though I don't wash their things with mine.

actually the first post I ever made at GC was on this exact same topic! LOL
I also had a post where Arwen had swallowed a piece of hair and was "vomiting" from it and I had actually pulled it out of her.

Thanks for the reminder and new thread for new members!

Excellent reminder, Teresa. I have long hair, and have always used caution with keeping it pulled back and up.

Before I put clean pouches or fleece back, I also double check to make sure there are no loose hairs caught in the fabric.

Every once in awhile I'll find one. shakehead

Great reminder! I have long, blond... OK, some gray ... hair and try to remember to check pouches and stuff for stray hairs.

When I worked at a childrens' shelter, we had a newborn brought in who ALMOST had to have his little toe amputated. His mom's hair had wrapped around it and she somehow didn't notice that his toe was turning black. shakehead

Granted my hair is long, but ladies unless your hair is only and inch long it can wrap around your sugar gliders toes.

So it is not only long hair is is medium and short hair too.

It pays to be diligent about stuff like this, check pouches for loose threads and hair.

Although I always check for loose threads, I never even thought about checking for my hairs. I shed worse than any of my pets so from now on I will check pouches and my babies regularly. Thanks for bringing my attention to this!

clap What a great post...

I have more hair than most people, and it gets everywhere tounge
Although I do inspect for anything "out of the ordinary", I'll be more diligent to look for getaway hair. thanks

By all means, cross post it to other boards!

Sari, it was a thread where someone asked if it was normal for their glider to want to play with their hair is all. I'd have to search for it now.
