I would also like to know how to curve these PVC pipes as I know when you apply heat to PVC pipe to bend it, it makes the PVC pipe actually softer.

Info from more knowledgeable people will be great!

Now we are up to boiling PVC?!? shock The things we do for our babies. shakehead Oh I will have to try this, I want to try this. The only way I was able to make spiral toys was with thick electrical cable. It works well, but let's boil some PVC, why not? roflmao roflmao

I bake mine. Wrap in paper towels and bake at 250 degrees for about 10 minutes. It comes out like a spaghetti noodle. Just make sure you have good ventilation while doing it, a window open and/or a fan running.

I use a heat gun. When I bend pipe, I fill it with sand, heat it, bend it to the shape I want and then dunk in cool water.

The sand keeps the pipe from kinking.

With the heat gun, you have to keep moving, don't hold it in one place or the pipe will burn.

You can buy rolls of tubing but they might kink if you do anything other than doing a coil with it

I use the regular PVC pipe. My cutters only ran me 12 bucks and they last forever. They are red and black. I don't fill with sand, I just go really slow. wink

Here is a closeup of a finished product of my own. thumb

This picture was taken prior to me adding the chain that goes through the "handle".

U can also put the pipe in the oven (keeping a close eye on it) my husband used to make bird PVC Stands and that's the way he did it before he bought his big one -

what do you all bend your pipe around to have a uniform curl or do you just wing it? And do you bend the pipe using a pair of pliers to grip it with or can you use your hands?

I know that I find PVC to smell rather quickly so as an alternative for the fun exploring - I just picked some of this up for my playroom:

I had some wood stands that hubby built me for outside oil lamps for the yard. I took two of them and screwed two different size cans onto the tops of them. I heat the pipe and then bend them around the cans (one is a coffee can, the other a large soup can).

If you want to make consistant S shapes, you can screw some cans down onto a peice of lumber and then use it each time to get the same shape.
