we have all heard in the news about how so many items coming from China have lead in them.

I have heard a few people on here recommend toy army men as toys for gliders. I bought my first pack yesterday thinking about how much Arwen loves to attack plastic, and thinking that there was a few video opportunities there (help its a giant glider!)

after I got home I got to thinking about the lead/china thing. I did email the company that distributes them, and am waiting for a response.

does anyone else worry about this? how do we go about finding out if a product is safe?
I did find this site about plastics
http://healthychild.org/5steps/5_steps_5/?gclid=CPLr7cDMsaUCFYHc4Aodk0PWYg

notice the plastic for toys? AVOID. ugh

Here's my feeling on this. If I worried about things like this, I'd drive myself crazy and I'd second guess all the things I do. I use my gut and I use common sense. I'm not sure where to go to find out if products are safe....I just know that for me, I don't check into each thing that I buy. dunno JMO

If you notice the one for toys that they say to avoid is also the one for baby teething rings so I wouldn't worry to much about it. you also dirnk pop and water out of the others that they say to avoid. Plastic is what it is a recycled product so you take your chance when you use it. I wouldn't worry about it.

I was mostly concerned about the plastic army men and the gliders chewing on them. Imagine TEETHING rings made out of lead filled plastic. whats next asbestos blankies?
gee whenever I make anything I THINK about all the items/ingredients going into the item and its intended as well as possible uses. dont these manufacturers THINK? wonder if they let their kids play with the same stuff...

Hope not! LOL Actually, those were made during the biblical era (well, tablecloths were).

You can buy home lead test kits from Toy R Us or Home Depot/Lowe's. If you have real concern, you could always test the product. If it turns out there is lead, then it would need to be reported so a recall could be issued. If it's negative, then let them play and get those videos! smile
