Hi...sadly I lost my last Joey as she was rejected. Today I have bought a small aquarium which measures 12''x 8'' and a heat mat that measures 5''x4'' I have attached a pic for you to see. Would these sizes be ok. If the next Joey is rejected I would either carry in my bra or a bra pouch during the day due to feeding so this will be for of a night time. I have the syringes, bottles, womberoo from last time. Please let me know what you think

i'd recommend going to your local pet store and getting a little sticker thermometer. these are usually used in reptile tanks and such.

this way you can monitor the temperature inside the little tank you have there.

it looks like the same cage i had for my hamster's carrying cage.

just keep it out of direct sunlight and make sure it doesn't overheat.

i'm not sure how the plastic would be affected by heat so just keep an eye on that.

do more research on how to care for rejected joeys.
i personally have no experience with young joey's so i won't be of much help.

but you're on the right track to prepare for any possible situation.

best wishes!

Thanks...Yes they are used as carry cases and aquariums as they come in various sizes. The heat mat says for plastic or glass aquariums so should be fine. I have read and read up on rejection inc all the info on Suz's site so feel I am prepared although I never stop learning various things about gliders from this site.

[:"green"]Tillie, it looks like you've got the right stuff for being prepared this time... Please don't hesitate to call me again if you need me. (Do you still have my number?)

Thanks Suz I really appreciate the help you have given me, Im sure I have your number but can I have it again just incase. I think this time I will wait a week or so before handling the joey (If I can!) after last time, I still feel that me holding the joey contributed to them rejecting it as we are not that bonded. Also was I right in giving half joey BML to half womberoo if I suppliment as I read 1 of your posts saying just the womberoo at 1st. If so when is it half and half..sorry Im confused!

Could one of those plastic aquariums be used with a heating pad (the human kind)?

[:"green"]Tillie,
My number is 440-953-0904 (before 9 p.m. ET unless an emergency, please - I think you're about 4-5 hours ahead of us time-wise).
As for the formula... 100% Wombaroo is fed if the joey is premature, otherwise, mixing it 50:50 with Baby BML is the way to go .

Thanks Suz Ive put your number on a sticker on the side of the incubator just incase. I bought a thermomitor yesterday and layed it ontop of the fleece where the joey would lay and it said 100 so I added another layer of fleece (thats 5 layers now) as I cant adjust it.

[:"green"]Good thing you got the thermometer ... Definitely too hot at 100. Did you actually stick the heating pad to the bottom of the incubator? If so, is it easily removable? If possible, I would remove it and set it on the surface below the incubator, maybe with some towels over it to help diffuse the heat some. My concern is that as the joeys get mobile, they may move the fleece aside and then get too hot...

Yes I stuck it on the bottom outside....good idea I will tape it to a baking tray with a towel over it then the incubator on top and see how that is.
