So we are planning a glider room only- I have a few questions.

1. I have 2 cage set ups- when you let them out to play freely- what do you do about the other cage? Is it possible to let them run around in the same room you keep the cages? I would only let one set out at a time.

2. I have cats- what do you do about the space at the bottom of doors so the gliders do not come out of the room? The house we have right now has a large gap.

That's all I can think of for now

I do not bring both cages in the playroom at once. One of my males is very dominant and the other is very meek and I would be so worried that one would hurt the other even through the cage bars......I had a cat as well and we roll up a towel and STUFF it under the door when we play. Make sure it's large enough not to leave any holes for the glider to go through because they're smart little boogers. Once they find a hole, they will NOT leave it alone. Most times I put a bean bag in front of the door and thats where I sit so I can sort of corral them back to the middle of the room.

My door is so close to the carpet that my gliders cannot sneak out-it does make the door harder to open. Also, make sure all outlets are covered and if you have lights plugged in that they are securely fastened to the wall. I also have ropes strung across the ceilings for them to climb on. Make sure all venting is securely fastened to the wall as well. I have a closet in my glider room and I had to empty it because they can get in even with the doors shut. I have the sliding doors, but they can sneek through the top.
I have one colony of five gliders (two males and three females) and they get along great with eachother because I got them all so young. So I do not have to worry about conflictng cages.

Hope this helps!

My glider room is for cages only...not playing. They play in our bedroom, and the cages take turns. We can't let our gliders out in their room...too much testosterone!

My glider room is a different room from where the cages are kept. I used to use a towel to keep them from getting under the door but my cat would pull the towel out. I found a really thick door mat and squeezed it under the door. It is a lot easier than using the towel and seems to be a lot safer because my cat can't pull at it. Do be careful about outlets. Mine are always trying to pull at and chew on the electric wires. I always unplug everything if I leave the room.

Good luck!

we had the cages in the play room, but that didn't work because Akane would attack the trio when they landed on her cage and go right to their cage to try to attack them on release.. so the cages are in the living room, they still have their play room.. I use scraps of fleece (large remnants) to block the openings under the doors, but I know people who use wooden boards if the openings are too big...

Our doors are really high off the floor. I guess it was to accomodate the harvest gold carpet I ripped out. We shoved a towel, but Paco kept pulling it out. My husband cut a piece of wood, maybe a 2"x2", and it fits snugly under the door. I bet you could have a place like Home Depot cut what you need for cheap. We also have cats and a loose glider is scary. We would find Paco on the stairs looking at us...what's the big deal, I'm having a ball!!

In my new house, the doors are set pretty high off the floor too. I had my hubby cut me some strips of wood, 1/4 inch thick and about 2 1/2 inches wide and the length of the door. I painted them to match the door then used three screws to attach it to the door on the inside of the room. It prevents escapes, blends in pretty well with the door (so isn't really noticable) and isn't something I have to do each time I go in the play room. It also doesn't interfere with the operation of the door itself.

You could probably take the measurements to homedepot or lowes and find just what you need to do the same type of thing. You could even buy some fancy type of trim and cut it to the length you need if you want it to look more decorative. Make it look like it was MEANT to be there, not just as an escape deterent.

I actually did it to each door in my house because I also have ferrets that like to explore everywhere and the gap was so big they could squeeze through under each door.

As for multiple cages...You could probably use a heavy weight (possibly denim) cage cover to cover the one group that isn't out playing. Just make sure you put it on there in such a way that the ones playing can't get under the cover.

Judge not until you have walked in their shoes and lived their lives. What you see online is only part of the story.
