I don't know what to do. Ayla was a GREAT mom to her first twins, she even kept them IP for over 9 weeks! When they were 12 days OOP I saw a new joey making it's way IP. I saw two lumps growing then at about 6 weeks IP her lumps disappeared , we had not changed anything, same prego diet, same nightly playtime, same everything. I checked her again a couple weeks ago because I thought her belly was growing again. ( Kind of hard to tell because she is still pretty stretched out and saggy from the first twins.) and I thought I felt two more pea sized lumps. She HATES her tummy rubbed so I was not totally sure. But last night I tried to check her tummy again and it seems empty. She is still acting like she has joeys IP, cleaning in her pouch and constantly hungry. She is still 115g, same as before she got prego the first time so she is not really fat. Just saggy. Could she be hiding joeys or do you think she is pulling them and I should hurry and get Stitch fixed?

I would wait to see. They are very good at hiding joeys. Has she had a recent vet check? It could be some issue with her pouch (If she is pulling the joeys).

I have only had experience with my little Tomoki. By the time I realized Keiko had a peanut (and even then I wasn't sure because I didn't really know what to look for), to the time Tomoki first appeared (not completely OOP, but body poking out), she only gained about 14 grams (in 3 weeks).

I would also give it time, especially if she is still cleaning her pouch and is constantly hungry.

[:"green"]I agree with Teresa, get a wellness-check with a vet to make sure she doesn't have a pouch health issue starting since everything else in her environment is stable. It is possible she is just hiding the most recent joeys, but only time will tell...

I will make an appointment today, but my vet has left town and the new one is COMPLETELY clueless. (he is the one that wanted to stitch my other male up to hold his penis in ) luckily he is very open to doing any tests I ask for and giving any meds I request. So do you know what would I have him chck for and what tests to run?

Ok I have an appointment for 2:15 tomorrow. When I called they told me that they had gotten in a new vet that has treated Gliders before. He is only working part time, but is training the others vets for when he is gone. I hope he is good. They had a suggie in from TX this morning, I will have to find out who it is.
Anyway, If any of you have gone through this and have any ideas of what tests or things to look for, PLEASE pm me or post here. I like to go in fully loaded so nothing gets missed. Also do you think (just in case she does still have joeys IP) I should take Stitch, daddy, along too? Would that help with the stress level? He is SUPER bonded to me and would not be a problem hanging on my shoulder if it will help calm Ayla. She is really nice now and bonded, but she still will bite if you make her mad. I will have LOTS of mealies handy.

I would take daddy along to help calm her. You might want to ask about a yeast infection. I've never delt with one but know they can happen inside the pouch and be a problem for the females.

Some mommas just don't let themselves carry joeys one on top of another. So that could be the case. I have 2 females that only have joeys once a year... where other females have joeys alot more then that. There is nothing wrong with the two that don't have babies all the time, they just need a longer break inbetween joeys.

Thanks, I will ask about the infection and take daddy along. I would not mind at all if she just wanted a break, it is just upsetting if she is pulling babies to get it. If that is the case I will definately get Stitch fixed.

It is weird that even now as I type, she is in her open cube cleaning in her pouch and clicking like she did when she was HUGE with the twins and was not comfy in their sleeping pouch. I felt her belly again and still do not feel any lumps.
I will update you after the vet appointment.

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask, My Lilo in in the next cage and has a single joey about 5 weeks IP, do you think that could have something to do with Ayla losing hers? They used to be in a trio together, but I wanted Lilo to wait until she was at least a year to start mating, so I put her with a younger male back around Jan.

Thanks again

[:"green"]I doubt that Lilo being close by has anything to do with the pulling, but it might if it's causing any stress between the cages. Do the males have "scenting wars" along the sides of the cages facing each other? If so, this could cause stress to the females.
Checking for a yeast infection is the best course of action right now. Of course, there are other types of infections, too, but the vet should know which ones to check for since he's glider-experienced.
Keep us posted,

OK, well the receptionist has no idea what she is doing. The vet that she told me "treats" gliders has actually seen "A" glider. He did not even know they had pouches. I stayed anyway and talked him thru examining Ayla's pouch. He is very willing to learn so that is something I guess.

I held Ayla's head and arms in one hand and her back legs in the other against my body ( hope that is OK, it is all I could think of to do to have access to her pouch) The doc opened up her pouch and it was nice and pink. NO redness or irritation. There were lots of very little white dots on the inner skin that I was concerned with, but he said he did not see anything to worry about. He did take a culture of the inside to send off. Then he tells me, "oh there is some swelling over here" When I looked I told him NO that is not swelling, that is a Joey!!!!
It was pink and kind of translucent, but definately a joey. About the size of a large shelled peanut. The other side was empty, but at least she still has one baby in there. At this point I went from calmly explaining what is normal and not normal, (from what little I have seen), to "Knock that joey off and I WILL HURT YOU"!

The doc did not want to risk the joey with any meds until he could talk to another more experienced glider vet so I gave him the name and phone number for Dancing's vet and this website to check out the vet link and we left. He is going to call me as soon as he gets the culture report back and talks to Dr. Bradley in MO.

Ayla did seem pretty upset by the whole process. She would not take a mealie from me and even skunked once. Stitch was good, he was on my shoulder most of the appointment, then started jumping from my shoulder to the nurse's, then the doc then back to me, like he was trying to see what we were doing.
All the way home in the car Stitch was licking and cuddling on Ayla's head, and clicking and purring at her til she calmed down.

I didn't get any definate answers about an infection yet, but at least nothing was screaming "problem"
I am planning some extra cuddle time and try not to worry for a while.
