Hello!

I hope, in the next couple of years, to become the proud owner of both Mosaic and Leucistic gliders - But I can't seem to find anyone who owns any in the UK.

I know it might seem a little premature to be asking this (since I don't even have my two girls yet ) but I was wondering about importing glider from America to the UK?
Does anyone know what websites I should go to in order to find out the rules and regulations regarding this procedure? I also want to find out how long quarantine is (I know probably 6 months) and if there are any alternatives that can be taken to lessen the burden of the journey and quarantine.

Also, are there any breeders out there who actually would be willing to ship? As this is kind of integral to all of this! Lol!

Edit: Oh, also, I just wanted to tell everyone that I'm taking an 'exotics animal care' course this year! I know it's a bit OT, but I'm dead excited!

Why would you want them shipped from the USA when you can get them there where you are? Seems like the trip would be soooo long for the suggie, and the shipping would be out of this world, in expense.

If you go to your internet search page, and type in "sugar gliders united kingdom", you will see a lot come up...... maybe someone else will come along and help you find a better way and good luck to you...

I'm not sure of any reputable breeders that would subject their gliders to the quarentine. 6 months (even a month) for a glider to be in a cage (one that would probably be to small) where it is not properly supervised, not played with, not socialized is just not a healthy risk. I'm sure you can find a breeder that only cares about the money instead of the welfare of the glider but...

Judge not until you have walked in their shoes and lived their lives. What you see online is only part of the story.

I know, which is why I'm very eager to see if there are any alternatives.

I know that with dogs and cats you can have a pre-med done which obsoletes the need for quarantine, and want to look into the possibility of this being extended to suggies! I just don't know what websites to go to...

Cycy, I know that normal greys are available (My two girls are normal greys) in the UK, but I'm talking about colour variations such as Leucistics!

I do know that to go with the Pet Passport way you have to have the animal micro chipped. This is the only way to guarantee that said animal has been vaccinated.

Although micro chips are small they might be large for a glider. The needle they use to insert the chip is quiet big. I would not do that to a glider .

Now if there was a way of surgically inserting it maybe that would be better. But you run the risk of putting a glider under. It's worth looking into all your options and like Teresa said, you just might find a seller or dealer who is only interested in the money so watch out for bad advice.

This is all something I have thought about incase I ever have to move back to Ireland during my kids lifetime. Even thinking about it is stressful
