I just ordered the HPW diet (HPW diet and Australian bee pollen).
I have a few questions about the fruits and veggie part...

is there a certain type of fruits and veggies that I should/shouldn't give them with this diet?

I read in the directions to use frozen fruits and veggies...
where would I find frozen fruits?

Do I have to cut up some apples, plums, pears, etc. and freeze them and then serve it with the HPW?

How do I serve the fruits and veggies with the HPW?
Do I freeze it all mixed together or do I serve it separetly?

Can someone clarify this for me please?

With the Original HPW diet you can pretty much feed any fruit or veggie that is safe for gliders. You can feed fresh, frozen, or a combination. Most of us do cut the fruits/veggies up into small glider hand-sized pieces since they like to grab the food and run off to eat it.

You can put each thing into different dishes, the same dish, mix it, however you want. Just remember that gliders are natural foragers, so hiding food throughout their cage stimulates their natural behavior.

Just make sure to give them a nice variety of fruits and veggies.

I use the original HPW diet. I buy a bag of frozen veggies (i tend to stay away from peas and corn cause they are good in moderation, the frozen bags have too much of them in the bag) and a bag of frozen fruit. (U can find frozen fruit in the icecream isle usually) Just remember to try and mix it up. Try and give them different stuff. Stay away from anything with onions or garlic.

I will take larger chunks of frozen food and chop them smaller while frozen and throw them in a strainer. I run it under warm water while I scoop out my HPW then toss the f/v in the bowl with the hpw and mix it up.

You can give them various feeding stations or do what I do.... I take a baby spoon and spoon there dinner into there toys and foraging cups. I leave a little left in there bowl and place it on the bottom of the cage or on there bridge. (It contains the hpw, but i like to mix the fruit and veggies so it covers the fruits and veggies they forage for. It can be kinda messy, but that way I know everyone is getting some hpw. I have foragers and one lazy glider who will sit at the bowl.)

You can use fresh fruit as well. Most people that only have a couple of gliders find that they waste a great deal of fruit if they try to serve only fresh, that is why frozen is suggested. The fruits and vegies thaw really fast though so if you are feeding them about 8pm, they have plenty of time to wait for it to thaw and it will stay fresher in their cage over night.

I have a lot of gliders and tend to feed between 10 and 11 pm so I serve fresh fruit. Because of the number of gliders, I don't have the wasted fruits. I still serve frozen vegies though.

(I don't feed HPW but my diet is served the same way, just with a different mix.)

Here are the preparation directions for Original HPW

http://www.gliderdad79.com/hpw.php

This staple mix provides the protein, vitamins and calcium your gliders need.

Along with the HPW each night you feed 1 TBS fruits and 1 TBS vegetables PER GLIDER. You can use fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables. Try to limit the use of peas and corn because they are high in phosphorus. Offer at lease some high calcium fruits and vegetables such as papaya, bok choi, spinach or other dark leafy green vegetables each week.

You've gotten great information so far. I just wanted to add that how you serve it may depend on what your gliders prefer.

For instance, some gliders (including mine) won't touch frozen fruits or veggies. But another glider might only eat them if they were previously frozen. Some like the HPW mixed with the fruits and veggies and some like it seperate. Some like big chunks, some like smaller pieces like a relish. You'll have to experiment and see what yours prefer.

So, there really is no wrong way to serve it as long as you give a good variety of fruits and veggies. Try not to stress about it and have fun with their dinner. Here are some great ideas that lots of us use: Fun With Food

Here ya go, you can go to the website and read about the Original HPW diet and see the list of recommended fruits and vegetables.

http://www.hpwdietcenter.com/original.html

Just remember, feed a variety and all things in moderation and you will be good to do as will your glider. thumb

I feed hpw complete and my kids will only eat their f/v fresh and in a seperate dish than their hpw. If I pour the hpw over the fv they won't touch it. But some are the opposite.

I freaked out bc at first mine weren't eating great. Keep trying different things until u finally figure out what works for them. Good luck.

Yes they are picky little fuzz butts. I put the HPW in with the f/v at first and they didn't eat anything then I seperated the HPW into a seperate bowl and they started to eat everything. Recently they started to only eat the HPW so I took the f/v bowl out of the glider kitchen and now they clean their plates!!!!! You have to try several different things until you get it right!!!!

If you're going to use the Original HPW you can get the ingredients from www.thepamperedglider.com. That's where I order my Wombaroo products from and am very happy with them.
