Hey - does anybody out there feed their suggie exotic nutrition premium diet? If so what else do you feed them? Currently I feed Mo the Premium staple, fruits and veggies. Occasional gliderade, yogurt, applesauce, and once some hard boiled egg. She's still young to be interested in mealies and such (I'm told). I've recently started worrying whether or not I'm keep the calcium/protien/phospherous balance. I've read chart about ratios and they sort of make my head spin I'm keeping with this staple b/c that's what the breeder fed her - if anybody could share a sample of their glider cuisine that would be awesome

some of the veggies Mo likes are : frozen mixed peas,g.beans, carrots, fresh asparagus, corn, cauliflower

fruits: strawberries, cantaloup, honeydew, grapes, pear, blueberries

I feed the premium glider pellets from Exotic Nutrition along with Darcy's diet. I just leave a small bowl with about a tablespoon of pellets in their cage 24/7.

Glider Diets

^Above^ is a link to a bunch of glider diets, including Darcy's diet. I like Darcy's diet because my gliders love the Ensure so I know they're getting their vitamins, plus it allows for some flexibility in things such as the type of calcium you use (carbonate vs citrate). Some diets allow for pellets to be fed with the diet but others, like BML, are complete diets and don't include the use of pellets.

Definitely check out the diets page as I'm not familiar with that diet.

As far as I'm aware the pelleted diets from EN are complete so are designed to be the sole diet, no veg, no fruit, nothing as they are nutrtionally balanced.

I personally don't used them, I did order the eucalyptus one for emergencies but when I tried it they weren't impressed!

From reading their website, they only recommend their glider complete formula be fed alone. That's why I don't feed that. I feed the premium pellets and it is recommended on their website that you add fruits, veggies, and protien along with the staple pellet.

I can't find that, all I can find is "Nutritionally complete for joey to adult sugar glider". Hmmm, open for interpretation I think.

I'm sure on the Eucalyptus diet packet it says to phase out using fruit - I've thrown the pack away now though so I can't check

From the Exotic Nutrition website:

"We recommend that adult sugar gliders be fed a varied diet. Exotic Nutrition's 'Premium Sugar glider diet' should be available at all times. It stays fresh for months and can even be refrigerated for longer storage. Along with the dry pellets, offer fresh fruits and vegetables daily. 2-3 times per week offer INSECT-EATER diet (canned food that contains whole insects) this is a soft sugar glider diet that offers variety and a protein source."

"If you are feeding one of the other pellet Sugar Glider diets (Premium, Eucalyptus or Papaya) then follow these instructions: Fill your gliders feed dishes with the following ratio of foods. The first day offer approx. 1 1/2 ounce of fruits and vegetables and 2 oz. of protein based foods (Pellet sugar glider diet, Insectivore-fare, or insects). After 24 hours if all the food is gone, then replenish the dishes with 2 oz of fruits and vegetables and 2 1/2 oz. Of protein based foods. If the foods are not completely gone after the first 24 hours, then cut back on the amounts of food the second day."

I don't believe you should ever feed your glider a staple diet alone... they should have fresh fruits and veggies every single night, to simulate what they would eat in the wild.

I agree. I don't agree with feeding a staple diet only. I've actually never heard of a diet that didn't want you to offer fruits. veggies, or insects in some other way than mixing it all in. It just doesn't seem "normal" behavior for them to eat the same food ALL the time. Hey I LOVE steak, but every day?? Nah, lol.

I keep Exotic Nutrition Glider Complete as a staple in the cage. My gliders love it. I still feed BML, fruits and veggies everyday too.

I have fed a mix of zupreem feline exotic diet, zookeepers secret, a mix of veggies (broccoli, salad greens, herbs, tropical fruits mixed together in a food processor) plus Judies BML (with slight modifications), + nutraglider. My gliders get a teaspoon of each and 1/4 teaspoon of both insects and zupreem every night, with a mix of the other fruits veggies and supplements. For 8 years I have fed a mixture of these things. I have yet to have a glider die or be ill for ANY reason. I swear by a varied diet that encompasses all glider nutriets, and not any one diet that "claims" to be complete. No one has done studies long enough to know what gliders really NEED nuttitionally. But what we do know is that they are INSECTAVORES that eat opportunistically much as out own opossums eat in the northern hemisphere.
