So I have been trying that fleece blanket in the pouch method to help my boys love me. I keep finding them scattered on the drop pan and I dont get why. Then all of the sudden last night i find Aero (who has shown himself to be a rather aggressive boy frown ) taking the fleece i just put in out of his pouch, to the corner, and he tried to rip it up. When that didnt work, he threw it on the foor! Whats up with that??

Not sure what it means, but they will toss them out if they are too warm just like we do with our blankets.

Shelly has a good point. I have found the little fleece blankets tossed recently here as well since the temperature is warmer even though the glider room has a/c dunno

It could also be there is a scent on the fleece from you he simply does not like. Possibly from your soap, deodorant or something else. It is really hard to know for sure.

Not only will they toss them, but often times if their nails are too long they will drag them out of the pouch with them because they are stuck on them.

It's not that he was in the pouch ans took it out though. He went all the way across the cage simply to take it out

I got a rescue in here a few years ago, bless his little heart, Russel was in sad shape. Blind in one eye, big ole abscess on his cheek and he stunk to high heaven.

I scrubbed his cage and discovered it was full of rust so I tossed it and fixed him up a clean cage, put all clean fleece in it and cut up his stink ole pouch so he would have something in the cage that smelled like him.

He proceeded to pull that stinky piece of fleece out and dump it on the floor of his cage. I held out a clean blanket for him and he promptly grabbed it and pulled it into his clean pouch.

Guess he didn't want any smells from his former home.

Gliders are different, some have to have their stinky blankets and some would rather have all clean stuff.

Try scent mingling starting with his and then adding yours.

Take a clean fleece blanket without your scent, place in his pouch and see if he keeps it. If he does, give him two days then take it out and place another clean blanket for him. Then you place the one you removed from his pouch and place it in your bedding, between the sheets where you sleep. After two nights, swap the fleece blankets again, placing the one that has both of your scents for the one he just scented.

If by some chance, he doesn't take to the clean blanket, then at least you know that he just doesn't like blankets. If he takes to the clean blankets, keep mingling scents that way.

In the meantime, if you can get him into a bonding pouch, try wearing that under your shirt, next to your body.

Keep working on the bonding, I had a tough case with my Lulu when I first homed my girls, it took time and dedication with loads of patience and we've made great progress.

Thanks guys. This has been so frustrating. Smoke has been making leaps and bounds towards becoming friendly and Aero keeps doing crap like this. I put clean fleecies in his pouch and he left them so i will try that scent mingling. He let me leave two of my scent in there though so maybe its a habit he's breaking

Glad to hear! Persistence pays!

This sounds so familiar, this is how my Lulu was, she would not let me have my hand in the cage without trying to attack it, she was very scary and intimidating. I almost gave up on trying to bond, it was that frustrating, but after I understood her behavior was based on fear, even though my Skadoosh wasn't like that it also was part of their personality differences. Then it made sense and I put full effort into bonding. It paid off, as I described in previous post.

I'm still working on Ollie, the new guy (since November last year). He's good, but lack of "out of cage" play has put a slow down on bonding. He has more trouble with nail trims and is a little nippy still. I will continue with all efforts possible for me now and hopefully soon can resume all methods again.

I love all my gliders equally, but I have to say Lulu is my success story, and has a way to melt my heart with her growing trust.
