I'm not sure if this should go in this section, or the Health & Hygiene section (as it kind of involves both).

During the day I have typically let my suggie (Suki Rae) sleep and then I play with her at night for several hours at a time. I've always done this because she goes crazy if I put her in a bonding pouch... something about the zipper drivers her crazy. Well, now we're bonded to the point where she doesn't mind hanging out in my shirt or in my pocket.

I just want to make sure... is it healthy for your Sugar Glider to be in your shirt or pocket during the day (when they're supposed to be sleeping), especially if you're moving around to the point where you may wake the up on occasion? Do they get used to this?

Just worried that I would deprive her of sleep. smile I want her to be a healthy baby.

I'm not an expert on this, but from what I've read over the last couple of years, it depends on your glider.

Some people carry their gliders and either their glider is so in tune to the movements or are heavy sleepers that they're not so disturbed.

My gliders are fairly light sleepers, especially Lulu and Ollie, to the point that the faintest movement or sound usually wakes them more often than not. I'm not sure about Skadoosh, she wakes up, but it may be from the fuss from Lulu. Although, they are more use to me, and don't fuss quite as much, if I try to remove pouch and sneak a peek, they're usually awake by the time I look inside.

1 dog, (Willow)
2 Sugies, (Ollie & Skadoosh)

I agree that it depends on the gliders. When they're carried around from when they're young, I think they're just used to it. But even then, it doesn't always work.

I always used to carry mine with me during the day. But over time as they got older, it started to disturb their sleep to the point that I had to start leaving them in their cage during the day so they could get proper sleep.

It's something you'll have to judge and see how yours do.

As has been said, most of them will get used to your movements and learn to sleep through what you are doing. I agree that if your glider is frequently waking up, or starts crabbing at you when you move, they are not getting enough sleep.

Even if they do learn to sleep with your normal movements, leaving them in the cage all day for every few days is probably the best for them. Giving them some alone, quiet time to rest peacefully is always a good idea.

If we never loved, then maybe we would never feel pain. Love anyway. It's worth it.
