I hate purses, but what I hate even more is the traditional square bonding pouch with the mesh window. YUCK!!

I am looking for a cute, yet mature way to carry my gliders with me. It need not be fleece lined, although that would be a plus. I'd rather it not be fleece on the outside, maybe a cotton canvas or nylon.

Many years ago, my friend and I found padded purses at walmart. She sewed ventilation windows on the back side and some paw print ribbon as an accent along the length of the handles. From the front, it just looked like a cute little purse. I could take my gliders everywhere with me because it didn't draw any attention as long as I carried it with the vent away from the public.

Well, I'm looking for something like that again. I don't want something that looks homemade. I have zero sewing skills so if anyone here has something that you feel may fit what I'm looking for. Or if you know of someone that makes something like this... please send me their way.

If I have to purchase a purse, and send it to someone to modify for me, I am okay with that too. Here is a link to a purse that I would consider carrying. I just don't want it to look like a sugar glider purse when its done. Maybe ventilation window between the sugar glider compartment and the pocket, and I could keep a pair of sunglasses in the pocket to keep it open to air.

If you do find a purse to convert - keep in mind that the outer fabric must be breathable and the entire purse washable.

One reason most bonding pouches are made of fleece is that it is breathable - even without a screen. The test for a fabric is to put it over your mouth and nose to see if air flows easily through the fabric. For a purse - you might have to stick your face into the bag to see if their is air flow.

If the fabric is not breathable, even with a screen gliders may have problems sleeping well in it since they often pile on each other with faces down into the fabric.

I know there are vendors that make a purse-like bonding pouch. Check the classified section here - or hopefully someone will be along with links to help you find them.

I make a large cross body GliderKids Carrier but it is all fleece and has a large screen (which can be worn facing the body) so it may not be what you are looking for. If you want to look they are shown on my web page.

I have been looking for an alternative to the typical bonding pouch myself. I went to Etsy and ebay keyed in "bonding pouches" and found Most of them were typical, with a few that were unique.

It really depends what style you are looking for. I was inspired by 3 different ones, each having things I liked and didn't like. none of which "sold " me. I would like to design my own, so I will be doing some drawing out, and then off to the fabric store. I do like the idea of a pocket for sunglasses or card on the outside of course.

I also like your thought Candy Otte on breathing. I may put a screen on the bottom outside of the pouch, with fleece inside.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

I'm not sure if this will satisfy what either of you guys are looking for, but JillMarie (used to post here) sells a unique shaped bonding pouch. I personally have one and can tell you they're nicely made. They are designed to wear cross-body. She shows options for fleece and flannel, but if you contact her I'm thinking she would make one with cotton on the outside, she is good with customizing. She offers ventilation holes or screen window options as well.

Here is the link if you want to check it out.

JillMarie Buddy bag

Actually, just rechecked, and she offers cotton and flannel only for outside, fleece and flannel inside options. Please read her descriptions, she explains in detail what your options are and what effect they have on the bag itself. For those who like basic black, she offers both solid black in flannel and cotton, but if you want to check and see if she'll work with you if you prefer to send a fabric color or pattern you like that she doesn't have.
