We might be going to the same breeder in Pensacola, Fl. He stated they were 7 weeks oop and were fully weaned. Is this too young? I saw the pic on another forum of a baby from the same breeder I believe, so now I know what I'm looking for. How will I be able to tell if they are truthful re age. I have a scale that I weigh my older glider on. Should I take it with me tonight?

Also they are trying to have us buy a cage, since ours are too large for the baby. It's over $100. Is there something else we could get temporarily that is cheaper.

We wanted to get a buddy for our sole 2 year old glider which we had since he was 6 mos. ish. Louie was a gift unfortunately, and there was no research done unfortunately regarding having a buddy. I LOVE HIM TO DEATH, and feel like he may be lonely.

I have a hard time writing on here. Hopefully I'm doing ok. I'm kinda nervous about going to see the baby in about 2 hours!!!!

HELP ANYONE!

I'm not sure but I thought they were supposed to be 8 wks oop. So you have a separate cage? The breeder said it was too big? Is it bar spacing too big? The bars spacing can't be farther than 1/2 inch apart

First - the joey should NOT be removed from its parents until at least 8 weeks OOP. It still has much to learn from them about being a glider and being able to care for him self.

I wonder if this is the same breeder that sold another member of the forum a joey at only 4 weeks OOP - because "that is the way they do things". Unfortunately that joey did not survive.

NO you should not take your two year old glider with you to the breeder's.

You will need a second cage for the joey to give it some time to grow a good bit before you introduce it to an adult glider.

You cannot just put the joey into the cage with your adult glider - it could be fatal for the joey.

Is you male glider neutered? If not that should be done before you attempt introductions.

As far as I know, a joey should not taking from its mother before 8 weeks OOP. As mentioned earlier, they learn a lot of behavior from their mother (and father?) during that 8 week OOP period.

You will need a second cage so that your new sugar glider can go through a quarantine peroid before introductions are made. (And also until the joey is big enough, as mentioned in another reply.) Your new joey should also see a vet during the quarantine period to make sure it is healthy and not carrying parasites.

How is your cage too big? Bar spacing or volume? If it bar spacing and spacing is greater than 0.5 inches, it is too big for your 2 year glider. If it is the volume, I would want to know why since everything that I read it is the bigger the better.

Between saying your cage is too big and, especially, if they are willing to let you take a joey home that is younger than 8 weeks OOP, I would seriously question the motives and methods of that breeder.

Actually, if this breeder is really USDA licensed, they are going against the USDA regulations by selling ANY animal under 8 weeks of age.

If they are USDA Licensed you should receive paper work for the transaction that contains their license number - they can be reported to USDA to try to break their habit of selling under age joeys.
