I am new to the glider world. I jave soent week doing everything I have read to bond with her and it appears to have worked. I am at a total loss of what toys to get her!! She has a wheel that she loves and I have tried hanging some bird toys but other than the wheel all she does is run around upsode down in circles in her cage. I want to keep her happy and healthy. ANY ideas for toys would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks!!

Small toys like plastic bracelets, monkeys from the barrel of monkeys game or even small plastic army men are fun for gliders. Plain plastic straws are also a big hit around here.

Running in circles in the cage is a sign of stress or loneliness.

I hope you will consider getting your glider a cagemate as soon as possible. Gliders are colony animals and really do need a companion of their own kind to snuggle with while sleeping and to play and groom with at night while their humans are sleeping.

Straws or bracelets? What do they do with those? I have also heard interactive toys. Puzzle type ones but no idea whet kind. I would love to get get her a mate, cost wise I have to wait (Just injured at worked and had spine surgery) so i can not afford another at this time

Mine chw on the plain straws and yank on the ones cut with a pencil sharpener ( shoved in a wiffle ball). The bracelets just get thrown out of the toy box, or maybe it is their attempt to tail carry. I havent seen them do anything with them yet but, they are trying to do something with them

:welcome2: Glad you found us!

They love to manipulate straws! You can bend it into a triangle, dip one end of the straw in honey before you poke it into the other end to complete the triangle. That would be a puzzle.

my girls love travel caps for toothbrushes, put a treat inside.

Easter eggs, I put a plastic pill box in the cage a couple of days ago, they haven't figured it out yet, but they see the treat.

Cut up the center of a paper towel roll, place fruit or treat inside, fold ends up.

Find a small plastic tub, put pom poms, or ping pong balls inside maybe a small piece of fleece.

Braid long pieces of fleece together to make a rope, hang from top of cage.

Do you have a cage set? With sleeping pouches, hammocks and so on?

Some like bracelets, the plastic kind in the party favors at Walmart and Dollar store.

With A single glider its so important to keep them busy and keep them company. Do you have a bonding pouch? If so while you are home and she is sleeping, put her in there and she won't feel alone.

I'm sorry you got hurt. That's no fun. But if you are home recovering, it will give you more time to spend with her.

Thank you for the ideas! Yes she is usually sleeping with me. Holding her in one way or the other. I ordered a cage set and it should be here tomorrow. That was all i ever find when looking for glider toys. Just didn't seem like a "toy" to me i guess.what pom pom are you referring to? Easter eggs show be easy enough to find right now. So I just put a treat inside ?thank you for all your help!

You got some great advice already, but I have a couple of questions, to try to determine why the circles.

What size is her cage? If it's not large enough, that could also cause stress that causes that behavior. However, a cage mate is very important if she is showing signs of stress already. Also a good reason to make sure cage is large enough.

What wheel do you have? It's important that you have a glider safe wheel for her, especially if she's using one regularly.

toys are for enrichment and fall into basically two categories:

1. Forage toys, such as the Easter eggs, tooth brush covers, basically any container that can hold/hide a treat that they have to work for to get. There are also many creative ways to make those such as mentioned with using the straws.

2. Reset toys, these are the types that have safe items hung about such as the monkey in a barrel or egg of bunnies, plastic bracelets, and the like.

There is also a third category, that can also function as a foraging toy. These are called either "ball pit" or "toy bin" They are larger containers (suggie safe) that are filled with safe items for them to dig through, toss about, even chew on. Some hide foraging items in them or just toss treats right into the jumble.

As for toys, Dollar type stores are treasure troves for finding items for your glider. I've gotten those Crazy Straws that come in a pack and have hung them around the cage bars for them to pull off.

Craft stores and craft isles in department stores as well as toy isles in department stores are also helpful places to find things.

I suggest looking around at photos of toys, just go ahead and use your search engine (I use google) and run a search on "sugar glider toys" and a bunch of links should show up. Also, look through threads here. This will give you a visual of what to look for. Before you know it, you'll be seeing stuff for your glider everywhere you go, lol.

Here is a link, I hope works and you find helpful.

I have ordered a larger cage which will be quite big because i was afraid hers ia too small. Her cage set just arrived today. I am on way to store to look for these toys. So I need things for her to "throw" and puzzle type items? I have googled with bo lick but will try again thanks!!

I just edited in a link to a toy search, hopefully it works for you. Just go back to my post just above and the link should be there.

I'm glad you got a larger cage. Once you have her in there with more activities it should help some with the stress. It still will be in her best interest to look for a cage mate for her though.

Reset toy is one they take apart and you put back together. Like the straws in a wiffle ball. They take the straw out and you put it back. Or like a bracelet on a barrel monkey or hook. They take it off and you put it back on.
