So I have two gliders name Big Daddy and Little Momma and Momma has a baby in her pouch. two days ago I was cleaning out her cage and moving them into another pouch and noticed the baby had its body out and only it head was still in there. Ever since I haven't noticed it come out again. My question is how do you determine the OOP date. Is it when the baby is out and stays out or is the day I saw it mostly out of her pouch.

Great question! I would say the first time you see the body out of pouch. If the body was out and only the head was in the pouch. I would think that was the oop date.

A Joey is not considered OOP until it has detached from the nipple and the mother is able to move way from the joey. If its head is still in the pouch nursing it may not be officially OOP.

Moms will take the joeys out of her pouch for grooming for a couple weeks before they are ready to detach from the nipple. Do not try to handle the joey until you are positive it has detached. If a joey is removed from the nipple too soon its jaw may not be fully developed enough to allow it to re-attach and continue nursing until it is weaned.

Yeah I did not touch it or try to when I did see its body out. I makes sense that she is bathing it cause I do keep a close eye on them and she does stimulate it to go to the bathroom when it's little but is right by the hole in her pouch. Thanks so much the info helps a lot.

This morning I was feeding them there treats and Little Momma came out when we noticed there were actually two babies hanging out of the pouch. both were nursing still. But I thought this whole time she was only having one. What an amazing surprise
