I am currently making a new fleece cage cover and thought after that I would make a bonding pouch. Both the bonding pouches I have are single layer fleece with exposed seams. They aren't unraveling, but I want a seamless, double-layer fleece bonding pouch. So, my question has to do with the windows:

I don't really like the idea of having a double layer of mesh, but that seems to be the way everyone does it. So I'm wondering...if the mesh is stitched to the outer layer of fleece, could it be attached to the inside layer of fleece with a strong-hold webbing (like Stitch Witchery)?

Does anyone know if there are instructions anywhere for a single mesh window in a double-layer fleece bonding pouch?

Thanks!

You could try these directions: http://www.sugarglider.com/journal/petluv15/Bonding_Pouch_Tutorial_871.asp

I made mine differently, but it seems like a good tutorial. Just make sure you use a short stitch setting while sewing.

Emily - Thank you. Yes, I came across that one too. But how do you like the double mesh window? Can you see your gliders very well through it?

I didn't really follow a pattern and have several different styles (one for each family member and then some smile ). I only have a single layer of mesh in each. And I didn't use the mesh you can buy in a typical craft/fabric store. I repurposed some Mary Kay mesh bags that came as a free gift. It's a nice strong durable mesh. Which I was glad for when Artemis sank his teeth into it and gave it a nice hard yank. He's my trouble maker, but I absolutely adore him.

I'm really curious to see how you did the window. Can you post pics? Are your bags double layered fleece?

Great idea with the MK bags!

I recommend that you put a mesh window in both the outside material and the inside material.

It is precautionary for chewers that way if you see them chewing through one layer you can get them into their cage or another pouch before they chew through the second layer.

All of the bonding pouches I own are all double windows.

What kind of mesh do yours have? Is it the soft flexible stuff you can buy at stores like Joann's?

Here are a few that I've made. Some are double fleece on both sides and others only on the side with the window. I put them in the big blue one while still inside their sleeping pouch so I didn't want them inside 4 layers of fleece and overheating.

I found that it was easier to sew with the exposed seems outside instead of totally hidden. Not as pretty, but at least there aren't any exposed seems inside with the suggies.

The top one is a möbius scarf that I haven't tried out. The window is bigger than it looks in the picture -weird angle. Their favorite is the big blue one (bottom left). Maybe because they have spent more time in it. They willingly hop in it at the end of bathroom bonding time. It has eyelets so that I can clip on a strap when I need it.

The scarf is really cool! Did you make it? When Houdi is bonded and I can take him on errands with me, trusting that he won't start crabbing or anything, I love the idea of the scarf! Is the "pouch" portion confined to just the area where the window is? Is the interior fleece?

I love the pouch that's in the middle. Very cool!!

I had an idea I can't wait to try out. I want to knit the outer layer and the inside layer would be fleece. I actually might ask my mom to do the knitting, since she could have it done in a couple days. If I get this accomplished, I will post pictures.

I personally like this: cargo netting . I got the heavier stuff.

All of the vendors use this: Pet Screening

I have seen the Pet screening material at a quilting shop locally and they have it in several colors to match your material.

There's an inner fleece pocket in the scarf.

I love the scarf, and knitting an outer one with a fleece inner pocket it a cool idea! I may have to give that a try!
