I know a lot of bird toys are safe for gliders but is there anything to avoid on a bird toy?

I bought this toy that I think my gliders will LOVE but I am not sure it is 100% safe.

It hangs with proper metal clip (Safe), it has small wiffle balls (safe), small cowbells (safe), but it has leather strips tying everything together and crazy leather with knots coming out. Leather is NOT stringy so I am not concerned there but I am not 100% sure is it safe.

Also is bird wood toys safe or is some of the wood toxic for Gliders? How can you tell the difference?

I'm on my phone so pulling quotes is tough but I am curious about the leather too.

As far as wood (and leather ) it will absorb pee and smell bad after awhile. I have steered away from bird toys with wood because unless the tag tells you what type of wood is used, you really can't tell. Mine aren't chewers except when it comes to wood. And only occasionally.

Where the leather is concerned i suppose I would be concerned about how it was tanned or dyed. If it were me I would probably buy it try it and restring if I had second thoughts. You can cut fleece into strips or use rubber stretchy thread used in making bead bracelets.

Yeah I bought it and then thought I could do that too. I was just curious as it is NOT listed as a dangerous toy and meets the guidelines of nothing stringy but is it safe. Then I see these cool toys with wood and perches, ladders etc and I know birds have issues with toxicity too but how do you know what is safe what is not. I am not sure if I am just being over cautious or am I right with the way I am thinking?

it is probably safe since any dyes would have to be non-toxic for birds to chew and play with it.

It probably will not last long for gliders though. The wood and leather will absorb urine and it will become a source of odor in the cage pretty quickly.

Gliders will also chew the leather and/or untie the knots to take the toy apart in no time.

Thanks! The one I have doesn't have the wood but wiffle balls and cow bells.
