Hey all. Big life changes coming. Good ones for a change.

Big move coming. Going mobile.

How many of you folks live on the road? I know some here do, and suspect some others do, but...

Does anyone here live in an RV of any kind? Semi-permanent or seasonal or fully gypsified? (just made that word up)

If so what sugar glider related problems did you have? I should have a spot to cram the cage in, so at least that's not a worry, but I know there must be a ton of other concerns.

Any input much appreciated.
Thanks
Dave

Lots of concerns!

I'm glad you posted this, as vacation time is around the corner and many will have to consider whether or not to travel with their babies or have someone sit with them.

We have a home but travel with our work and the girls are more familiar with the 5th wheel than they are with home. There is always the "new" smells with the move. It takes our girls only about 2 days to feel comfy now. But in the beginning it took longer.

Space is a big concern. Right now the girls cage sits on the bar in front of my kitchen sink. I have a cover on them so they don't toss things the direction of the kitchen. It is challenging to keep things sanitary.

We considered trading in our camper and finding one that was more accomodating, and have looked. We found one that was 2 bedroom. Hubby wanted to convert the whole room just for the babies. Not a good idea. (I'm the housekeeper).

Temperature is something to consider. In the extreme hot or cold, it has been a challenge. Also sunlight. Gliders can't be in direct sunlight.

Would love to hear from others on their challenges...

Since it's become relevant--Ladymacgyver...and anyone else who may be reading...

What happens if I have gliders and I cross into a state that does not allow them as pets? Anyone have any problems with this?

Georgia used to have a 24 hr window when traveling through that state, but now they are legal there.

California simply doesn't want them anywhere in the state, however, there are people who own them just like they do illegal ferrets dunno

Pennsylvania says they are legal with special documentation, but so far we haven't heard of anyone who has been able to obtain these
special documents. In fact, we have heard of people who have lost their gliders frown

What states do you travel?

Some states have different counties where gliders are illegal, like Kentucky and New York. Ohio or maybe it was Illinois may also as well as Texas.

But when you think about it, when you get stopped at the inspection stations, they are looking at your cargo and weight mostly, aren't they. How often do they actually check cargo in your cab? How many of those inspectors would even know what a sugar glider is or care for that matter dunno

My husband and I traveled with Roo to VA. We have a camper and took her and our dog. Generally, unless you have a a red flag on your rig stating that you have Suggies on board wink you shouldn't get pulled over and then asked if they can inspect your RV.

With us we have a bumper pull 30 foot camper. When I traveled with Roo, she stayed in her pouch tucked into my bra. If we got pulled over and she made a sound I guess it could have been an issue. But we did buy her in a state where it is legal to sell them and own them. Our camper has a bunk room with a curtain. The bottom bunk totally folds up and we use that area for some storage. When we traveled with Roo, her cage fit perfectly in the corner away from light and drafts. She adjusted very well to the different smells. I give our dog some credit for that. Her and Roo go nose to nose with Roo still in her cage. They acknowledge each other and Roo is very familiar with our dogs smell. This seemed to help her relax.

That's the extent of my knowledge. But since we will be traveling with two Suggies in the near future, it will be good to see what others have to say.

Thanks!

Leslie

OOPS! I was totally unaware of state laws and my FAMILY member being illegal. Lol! So I wonder if there's a list or do we have to check each state for applicable laws? Or just hope we don't get pulled over in transit. I've been in pa a lot for work and will have to be going back several times before this merger is over!

Here is a good rule of thumb map .

I would say your red flag state would be Pennsylvania for sure. If you get stopped by someone who knows the law, it could get more than uncomfortable. I personally would never take the chance with those folks shakehead

Massachusetts hasn't been legal that long, so it's possible you might get stopped by someone not up to speed.
