The first time I heard this sound, I thought the wheel squeaked. Then I thought it was Delta getting his claw caught while he was in the wheel. Then I heard it while he was in his sleeping pouch. It's like a squawk. Well, something you could confuse as a squeaking wheel. I hear it a couple times I think in this vid. Super cute BTW, but at the very end - 3:54 (it's 4:00 long) is a pretty clear instance of it. What's that sound?

I listened to it several times and didn't hear anything to be alarmed about. Just gliders very excited over the mealies agree Even if you are hearing it in the pouch, with this many gliders, I still wouldn't be concerned.

At the bottom of each page your will find our Sounds link or simply click on the word sounds wherever you see it highlighted :thumb2:

Not my video. I have one glider. I just was trying to explain the sound & couldn't. It isn't in the sounds section here & heard it in that video that I found on YouTube & used it for reference.

That video :roflmao2:

It's a good sample of excited gliders. As Karen mentioned, it's nothing to be alarmed about. Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed watching and listening to the glider's delight.

Phew, thanks! People keep describing the SM sound as a loud single crab. It really freaked me out when he did it with no apparent stimulus. I sat there going,

People also say you'll definitely know when you hear it.

But he is a lone glider.

But I do spend a lot of time with him.

But his toys are kinda lame.

But he still plays.

But sometimes he just grooms for a while.

But it doesn't seem excessive.

But WHAT'S THAT SOUND?

So, thanks!!! The tension is bad sometimes that he may be lonely. Been keeping my ear to the ground for a buddy for him at a reasonable price. Job hunting too, but that's old news. My current job refuses to pay overtime, but works me so much I don't have time for a second job. Hopefully soon I'll have the money to add an Echo to Delta. wink or perhaps a Foxtrot.

In the meantime I'll try to keep calm & remember the happy healthy single gliders out there.

My mental health may suffer before his does

I have not had any experience with a s/m nor has anyone as far as I know posted the sound.

From what I have been told it is something between a desperate cry and a bark yet is unlike any sound you have ever heard. We have always been told there is no mistaking the sound when you hear it because the glider will be chewing on itself and inflicting pain.

Hope this helps.

It does, thank you. I feel better. And Delta's mood has seemed consistently pleasant. I have a possible addition to the family lined up to ease my worries of a single glider. He may have a buddy in a month or two. smile
