I do believe there are some size differences. Hopefully someone else will see this post and fill us in.

One stage when Australia/Papua/Indonesia were most likely joined they were possibly the same species of Petaurus Breviceps (sugar glider) of but over time with the separation of lands and different habitats, certain traits for different areas have become apparent. These have become subspecies of the Petaurus.( There are a number..some are larger, some have different colouring, some have different physical features and traits.)

Here in Victoria Australia, most of our gliders are petaurus breviceps breviceps...larger, chunkier. One distribution area though of wild gliders here in Victoria , has shown a group of unusual chocolate brown colouring. This is purely from close breeding of certain animals naturally in the wild and they have become I guess a subspecies of a subspecies which has also happened in other areas too.
Then to add to the mix, there are squirrel, mahogany, biak gliders etc as well as the different subspecies of sugar glider. It's a huge subject that can be discussed for hours.
