I really want to breed my leu female with a mosaic male, but I have two other females and don't have room to adopt a new male. Does anybody in the Wilmington, NC area have a male mosaic they'd be willing to let me breed with my female? I'll give you one of the babies, and keep you updated throughout the pregnancy. Please email me asap if you would be willing to help out!

(I am also open to other breed variations in males, anything other than standard grey.)

Thank you!!

Abby,
Gliders are not like dogs where you can find a stud male, breed with a female and send the male on his way. Or at least you should never do that.

Gliders pair up or are paired up as a bonded couple to raise their joeys together. The male in the partnership plays a very important role in raising the joeys.

In your situation, there would be no partner to help your mother, and you could not count on the other females to help. In fact, they could harm or possibly kill the joeys without dad there for protection.

Even in established colonies, things can go wrong.

Okay, I don't need to be spoken to in a condescending way. I came on here to learn and do what's best for my gliders. I appreciate the information, but I don't need to be told what not to do. I'm looking for useful information on what i should do.

Karen was definitely not being condescending. She is 100% correct in gliders cannot be used at stud like you do with other animals like cats and dogs. Gliders bond very deeply with their mates and the male is an essential part of helping with the joeys. Without daddy there to help mom can get very stressed and may even pull the joey(s) before they're born. There's also no guarantee you'll have more than one joey.

I know it's not what you want to hear but if you want to breed your girl you would have to add the male to your current gliders. And, one last thing to think of is just because the gliders are paired together and are a good fit lineage wise, it doesn't mean they'll ever have joeys. Some gliders just don't want to be parents no matter what we do wink

I was in no way speaking/typing in a condescending way, and know all to well it is impossible to read tone in a post. I have had it happen to me many times in the years I have owned this board.

You say you came here to learn what is best for your gliders, and I would be remiss if I told you what you are wanting to do is best for your female.

I believe what I told you was useful information. We can only draw on our experience and pass it along. What you do with it is entirely up to you. I doubt you will find reliable information on the internet to dispute what I have told you.

There have been many times I have not liked what I have been told regardless that it was true.

I wish you had not taken it as being condescending. It was certainly not posted in that manner.

This is so sad. Something that was meant to be a teaching moment.
