Hi, I'm relatively new here, and could really use some advice. I have had my gliders for about 3 months now. I get them out everyday of the week, but generally not the weekends they no longer crab at me, and seem to have no problem with the schedule, and go into the carrying pouch willingly. I have had them out in the bathroom 3 times now, including today. They stay close to me for the most part, they jump on and off me, chase each other around on me etc. today I experimented with putting a tiny piece of treat in each pocket of my shirt. The problem is that they get behind my neck, and they get around my shoulder blade and bite me. Not hard enough to draw blood.. I don't think.. but I can feel teeth. I can't reach around to move it away. Any advice would help! Thank you, sorry this is so long.

April

Try sitting with your back against the wall. Keeping them from getting back there and distraction is your friend.

Feather toys for cats, as long as they don't have catnip are great.

I hv a 10 yr old Female suger Glider.
She had a sibling that died (unknown reason) about 8 yrs ago. Ever since her brother died she has been mean and wont let anyone touch her. As of recently I hv made an effort in trying to play with her the last two days. I will stick my hand in her cage (After hving washed my hands) and she will bite my hand. Sometimes she draws blood other times she doesnt. She will bite and sometimes hold on a sec or two and then lick and go back to biting again. I dnt own a tent and I cant let her out to roam cause I hv two dogs. When she does Bite I make a *Sh* sound and immediatly put my hand/fist back up towards her to show her Im not afraid of her. Is there anything else I can do instead to get her to stop biteing. (We named her Trinket) Also when I go to pet her belly She bites harder on my hand. frown

Does anyone know why our intact male (5 months old) is attacking hands/fingers, with his genitals completely out (1.5"), and has a bit of an obsession with this?

He doesn't do that to the younger kids, but to me (the dad), he displays this aggressive behavior, and tries to find me sometimes so that he can continue at it.

This is usually later in the evenings, not necessarily when he's cuddly after waking up.

Any thoughts on this would be great - we're thinking of having him neutered anyway, so perhaps this would help?

Hi, and :welcomegc: !

Neutering may help, but do you wash your hands after you eat and before you handle him? Unscented soap is recommended.

If he is young, he may be testing/ trying his environment.

You try to correct him by "Tsk" or "Shht", maybe followed by a loud "no!" He may not react at first.
They can be taught. Try not to flinch when you're bit. He learns quickly what makes you go away too.

I hope this helps, please keep us posted on his progress.

Is it just me, or is this threat becoming #1 on GC for Hyjacked?

If he doesn't go after the kids, only you, sounds like he's trying a dominance thing. I'd keep showing him that you're unaffected by his efforts. It sometimes helps to break my furballs' focus by picking them up & putting them where I want them to be.

I agree with Hutch if he only doing this to you it is either dominance or he feels threatened by you.
