I know that some people don't feed grapes
but do you? And how often if you do?

I just got my gliders four days ago. I've read about people feeding grapes, and bought some red grapes to try. So far mine haven't touched them. Don't know why. They seem to prefer their other fruits.

Yes, I feed grapes, but have noticed that they only like the black seedless ones. I don't feed them every day, maybe only once a week and I always wash them really well, cut off the end where the stalk was and peel them.

I serve grapes of all different types (green, red, etc). I clean them and cut them in half. I know there is a huge debate over grapes right now, but I've been feeding them weekly to my gliders for nearly six years with no problems.

However, since the possibility is there that grapes could be a problem food, I have started serving them less and less for my gliders sake. I feed the 'back to basics' BML diet. Grapes (seedless) are on the list of approved fruits, so I don't see the harm in using them. There are other approved fruits though (watermelon, melon, cantaloupe, apples, blueberries, and pitted cherries). I've recently begun using more and more of these fruits instead.

I feed grapes on occasion (not often), mostly when I eat out and I get grapes on my plate. I also wash and peel.

Mine don't like grapes, so it's kind of a moot point here.

I feed grapes on a regular basis. Seedless, well-washed, and cut in quarters. My boys seem to prefer the green ones. I freeze the grapes in snack-size freezer bags and then just remove a couple at a time. What is the new info. on feeding grapes

I used to feed grapes to mine and he loved them. They were his favorite. Then I read that there is a possibility that they are the source of problems including death. There is no concrete evidence that suggests they are unhealthy. All I found was that when a study was conducted among glider owners who's gliders had died suddenly and mysteriously, grapes were a common thread. Make what you will of it. You could reason that almost every glider owner feeds grapes so it's like saying that people who wear shoes are more likely to get cancer. I personally stopped feeding them because there are other fruits he likes almost as much (I replaced grapes with blueberries)and I wouldn't take a chance, even if it is remote.

We do feed grapes to our gliders and have done so for years. The main thing is to feed seedless grapes and be sure to wash them well before feeding.

There was a story about a dog, lab I think, that pulled a bag of grapes from the kitchen table and ate a bunch of them. The dog became ill and died. Grapes were found in the stomach of the dog and people did a lot of assuming. There was no proof that there was anything toxic in the grapes that poisoned or otherwise killed the dog. There has been speculation that it was the volume that the dog ate and maybe his digestive system could not digest that large amount. Someone said that if a dog would eat 9 oz. of grapes it could be harmful. I would imagine that if a dog ate 9 oz. of most fruits or vegetables at one time it would be harmful.

I hated to see this publicized about not feeding gliders grapes. There is no proof and we have enough wild ideas floating around about diets without starting another one that has no basis. Many glider owners are afraid to include corn in their gliders diet because of the rumors. Bull!

Use a little common sense and do not feed an excess amount of just one thing. We once took a glider in that was almost dead. When we questioned the owners we found out that the glider was not eating anything but carrots. We put the glider on a balanced diet for three weeks and she was fine. The problem was not that carrots were in the gliders diet but the amount.

As a matter of fact, the ASPCA released a statement concerning this topic. The dog did in fact consume a large amount of raisins & did in fact die. HOWEVER, the ASPCA and the Animal poison control center has been studying this topic for several years now & has found that the quantity consumed is irrelevant - a single raisin or grape can induce FATAL renal kidney failure in a dog. They still do not know why & strongly recommend that grapes and raisins not be fed to any animal. I will heed their warning. You may view the ASPCA artical here - http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer?pagename=pro_apcc_publicationsgrapes

I would be highly suspious of someone who told me that a certain item would kill my pet. Yet they do not know what is in the item that would kill my pet but if I would get it into a vet quickly it could be saved. They do not even know what the problem is yet they can cure it! sounds like an old snake oil pitch! Any medical professional should be ashamed to publish such a statement.

If there was a real problem with grapes and rasins the danger should be published and the remedy given. Speculation and assumptions are not approprate. sounds like some are trying to replace the old traveling medicine shows with the computer.
