#154208 - 10/07/06 10:28 PM Why oh why do my gliders like to pee on me?
Anonymous

So, my gliders have been getting a lot more comfortable coming out of the cage to interact with me and my girlfriend. They run up my arm and go to my back/shoulder and sometimes go up to my head (where the girl likes to bite my scalp). However, for the last week or two, they seem to enjoy urinating on my arm and back... more than once. It's quite annoying. It's not just immediatly after they come out of their pouch (at which point I know they're more likely to defecate/urinate), it's pretty much any point after they're up.

Why are they doing this?
Why do they bite the scalp?

What do I do?

Its a sign of LOVE lol
Actually I'm not sure, maybe nervous? The same thing happens to me, like she waits for me to get her and then wooosh

I would say it is a sign of love. they are marking you as their own..

When they bite your scalp, it could be they don't like the smell of your shampoo... they could be grooming your head.

To keep them from biting your scalp you can gently redirect them when they head that way, or you could try wearing a hat, maybe? You could also try using a different shampoo, is yours fruit scented??

For the urinating on you.. Well, they mark what they consider theirs..and you are theirs. You could cut down on the marking by wearing the same shirt in there with them, so it already smells like them.. just wash it every few days..
I hope that halps some!! Good luck!

They are claiming you as theirs because as Luis said they LOVE you! Congratulations you have officially been baptized by your gliders!

Because you are special and they love you. I would feel insulted if my 3 didn't pee on me everytime I take them out to play. I usually get it 5 or 6 times every night. I just wait until I'm ready to put them up, I change out of my tee shirt into my night shirt, but first I just use a baby wipe to kind of freshen up. My husband wipes my back for me. You do get used to it and it becomes no big deal really.

ahaha this thread is cute.

Yes my gliders pee on me..pretty much constantly.

I think it's a marking type deal..like..this is my human..dont mess kinda thing.

I also love it when my male rubs his bald spot all over my arms and face to also mark me as his own.
Not to mention he also does it to luna so that EVERYTHING is his.

long live loki.

oh and PS bugsmama..wearing the same shirt never helps..he just doesnt pee on the shirt but still pees on my arms and down my neck and even sometimes down my shirt so it nicely soaks into my bra! Now if that's not love I dont know what is wink

Timmy does this to me, too! Gidget is just beginning to climb on me, so haven't been 'loved' by her yet! lol One funny thing Timmy does every night when we go into the bathroom. He will jump onto the window sill, rub his body against the window, and then poop there! He does it every time, like he is marking that spot as his. One time, I put Gidget up there, she smelled were he rubs his body, and then she rubbed her body against it! (She didn't poop, though. lol) Is he marking this with his scent to claim it, too?

grin Your right, this is kind of a silly thread, however, it's a reality! I've read where alot of "new" glider owners are not prepared for the "marking phase". It takes a little bit of time to establish an acceptance, develop a routine, and expect/accept that that is all a part of being a suggie parent! I have done the same for keeping a soiled shirt and change it out every two days. My back up shirt I keep it in their cage to sleep on during the day so that it has their scent on it. It has cut down on the urinating considerable, but for the poopies! well seems like there's not a solution except watch their little hiney and tail raise then go to a basket, or have a piece of tissue handy to catch it.... blush

He never poops on me, just the sill. Doesn't bother me, just pick it up with tissue. Just thought is was funny the routine he does every time before pooping, the rubbing his back (like a cat does) against the window (it has a 'handle' type thing across it and he rubs himself the underside of it. And when Gidget smelled his scent on it, she did the same thing. lol)
