Okay I am thinking about switching my babies to PML.
My questions are:

Exactly how do you feed the diet?
What are the pros and cons that you have found about this diet?
How long have you been feeding this diet?
How many health issues have you had while on this diet?

Thanks y'all this will help a bunch!

I have just started to feed the diet and so far I love it. I have been feeding it for about a month just so u know.

I feed 2 tablespoon of fruits/veggies along with 2 teaspoons of the high protein wambaroo mix each night because I have 2 gliders.

I also offer mealworms during the morning/afternoon.

The diet is EXCELLENT, they eat it all up and their coats are so soft smile

I cannot say enough great things about this diet.

My gliders have been on it for almost 2 years, their coats are much shinier and they are more active. There is never anything left in the bowl, they love it. They usually eat it before the fruits & veggies

I am getting a new baby that will be on this diet when I pick her up. So I planned on feeding her the same diet and just keeping my gliders on the BML. But now you all have me thinking about switching to PML for my gliders too.

Miz Valerie- what are you feeding them now??

I'm going to have to keep an eye on this post.

I am feeding SunCoast. But I am having alot of problems with it. Theres a smell to my gliders and their poo, their coat is rather rough compared to what it use to be. I have also been talking to Pockets and she sent me some great diet info that has really got me thinking.

Thanks for the answers and keep them coming!

If you are talking with Pockets about diets, hold on tight...that woman has TONS of really good information she is always willing to share. She is the one that taught me about the PML diet plan. She also always recommends that you talk with your vet about it before switching. Which I am glad that I did because my vet LOVES this diet. Although he did have me make a couple changes different than what Pockets does (adding bee pollen and keeping it at 3 eggs)

I have been feeding this diet for over two years now and not once have mine turned their nose up to it. Their overall appearance is AMAZING, their eyes have never been brighter or look so alert, when they have joeys, the joeys are always HUGE and healthy, hardly any smell whatsoever, even when the males go on a major marking spree.

I feed 1-1/2 teaspoons of the HPW
2 Tablespoons fruits
2 Tablespoons mixed veggies
and gliderade every now and than (usually twice a week)

I do change the amount of the High Protein Wombaroo powder I use in the mix though. If I have a momma with joeys in pouch I increase, if I dont than I decrease.

I just recently switched my gliders on to Peggy's version of PML. Hers does not use the ZKS (which my gliders will not eat) and the mix itself has some slight differences (extra egg and bee pollen added). It also allows for more fruits/veggies to be fed.

I feed 1 1/2 tsp. of the PML mix plus 1 tbs. fruits/veggies each night per glider. Twice a week I offer glideraide and 1-2 x's a week a little yogurt. Mealies (about 3-4 per glider) are given during the day.

Pros to the diet
Easy to make and feed each night
Gliders clean their plates each night

Cons to the diet
Sticky little hands! For whatever reasons, my gliders get their paws all in the PML and the cage needs to be wiped down more. I am thinking it is from the honey in the mix that gets tracked throughout the cage.

And not a big deal to me, but may be for some - you need to order online the WHPS and GLideraide. I also order the bee pollen the Peggy's version calls for from a site online - but it can be found in most healthfood stores.

I have not noticed any big differences with my gliders yet - but it is much too soon to really be able to tell (only been on it for about a month).

Oh good grief! *rolls eyes*

I must have been asleep when I wrote that last post! LOL

PML IS what my gliders are on and have been! I have a habit of calling it the original leadbeater's since it's so close. I was thinking when you said PML of Priscilla's diet! (which is good to by the way) That's the one my gliders had quit eating.

Gosh, now e'one thinks I sit and eat PML! LMBO!!

Pockets (Debbie) Anything she says, listen, she KNOWS what she is talking about! smile

I switched all my gliders over to PML about 2 months ago due to them not wanting to eat their BML. I am very happy with the results. They are all very happy, much more active, their coats are alot softer and smoother already. I never have any left in the bowls and they will go after that over the fruits and veggies and sometimes even the mealies!!!! Great stuff. The only draw back is making sure I have enough wombaroo mix all the time. At least Sheila is here in town that makes it a little bit easier. Good luck in your decision.

Just keep in mind that when ordering the HPW you always want to have a *backup* box, so when you open your last box, place another order for some. That way if it is not in stock by the time you need it, than it SHOULD be here.

Also, dont forget that Pockets sells it also. Her, Sheila and TMarie. thumb

MizValorie, mine have been on that diet for about 2 years now. I tried the BML, it was a no go for them and me too. I tried 2 other diets which didn't work for them and so I am staying with the PML for good. I give mine app. 1 1/2 tbs. each every night along with their veggies and fruits. I also give mine yogurt everynight either plain with a bit of baby food fruit on top or mixed fruit yogurt (Breyer's). I give them boiled chicken or scrambled eggs a few times a week. I have always used Acacia gum and Bee pollen sprinkled on fruits and chicken (bee pollen on the chicken) I also give them a monkey biscuit soaked in Kerns' nectar a couple of times a week. They get one yogurt drop each day midday and mealies a few times a week.

Pockets does NOT feed insects and has good reason not to in her case. I have been raising my mealies for over a year and personally am not worried about the ones I feed.

She's one of the best people you will come across and knows gliders. smile

Thanks Peggy I didn't think about that! I'll make sure to order another one.

Where have you gotten you acacia gum and bee pollen at SugarBlossoms? And what is Kern's Nectar?

I have the Nectar from Suncoast, would that be just as good as GliderAide or do y'all think I should get some Glideraide too?

You can buy the Kern's and the Goya at the grocery store or Walmart. They have it there in Tx. too. The Goya nectar is in the Mexican food section.

I get the Acacia Gum and the Bee Pollen from www.exoticnutrition.com

I personally don't use Glideraide. In my opinion, that's pushing for vitamins. Too many vitamins are just as bad as not enough. smile

I agree too many vitamins/calcium can be just as harmful as not enough, however, I also offer gliderade no more than twice a week with my gliders, recommended by my vet.

Sugarblossoms looking over what you feed with your PML I just want to add to be careful because too much protein and the wrong types of proteins are also harmful to gliders. It doesnt allow the body to break down things properly and also will add on weight gain when it is really not needed.
The bad proteins can cause a fatty gain which can start affecting all the organs in our gliders, us too for that matter. :-)

Thats the one thing we so need to look into more, diets for these guys. Maybe just maybe one day we will be able to figure out their true needs.

I know there is a person that has recently switched over to PML and her overweight gliders have started loosing weight and her underweight have started gaining weight. That to me says a LOT. And with the amount of protein in the HPW, Im not sure there is a need to add anymore.

Hi, what exactly is the pml diet? Ive had my 2 gliders for 2 years and have always fed the bml diet. When i purchased my gliders i had to sign a paper stating i would always feed the bml mixture to them. They do eat it with no problems but i am interested to know about the pml since so many of you seem to think its so good for the gliders. Is it made up similar to the bml? what are the ingredients? Thanks nikki

Peggy, which proteins? I don't feed those all at once (lol) I was giving examples of the protein I give my gliders, but they don't get that every day. I hope you don't think I feed all that every night! smile

Boiled chicken once or twice a week, scrambled egg about once a week, mealies 3 times a week.

Something I found pretty recently is that Acacia Gum is a natural type of calcium that gliders get in the wild and the Bee Pollen is a natural protein. I have used both from day one since close to 3 years ago. (knock on wood, Thank God) my gliders are healthy.

nikki_stewart,
Here is the link to the PML page.

Its like BML in the fact that it is a modified version of the original Leadbeater's. The rest you can learn from this post as I am.

Calcuim is one thing I was wondering about. I have the calcium carbonate, can I use this? Or something else or is it not needed?
Thanks again y'all!

When using the HPW diet there is no need to add calcium to the diet. There are enough vitamins and calcium already in it. thumb
