I don't know what happened. I fed Shmi and Smegal last night and this morning when I went to get them out to play Shmi was dead. Smegal looks fine, thank god. It almost looks like Shmi bloated. She was doing so well She was up for 54 grams from when I got her to 66 grams. She had stopped over grooming and now she's dead I'm going to take her to the vet today and she'll preform a autopsy (for free too, isn't she sweet?). I'm going to get a fecal float and smear done on Smegal. I don't understand what happened. I'm feeding them the same diet as I'm feeding all of my other gliders, the same basic care and she dies. This is the second time this has happened to me... I lost Little Boy about a month and a half ago and the vet couldn't find any cause of death. He was just dead. I need to stop taking in all of these uncared for gliders, it hurts too much. I just want to give them a good home, but then something happens and they die It just hurts way too much.

Edited to add:

I'm so sorry! Death is just a sad part of life.
As hard as this is, please remember that without you, some of these little ones wouldn't have a chance. You're their guardian and protector. Even when it hurts, try to remember all the joy and peace and love they have found with you.
It takes a lot of strength and courage to take in animals with a questionable past. You have such a big heart!

Oh hun, it always hurts to lose something we've given our hearts to, but like Robin said, where would they have been without you? You made the end a wonderful place for them, and they passed finally knowing love and good care. I am so sorry about Shmi. My thoughts are with you now....

I am so sorry about Shmi...but remember, at the very least she knew she was loved and cared for by you . She needed you and you were there.

Leyna, I am so sorry to hear about your Shmi. I know it must be hard, but bless your soul for having the heart and taking the time to give these un-cared for babies another chance. May time heal your pain.

[:"CC6699"]I am so sorry for your loss! I have read so many stories of gliders just passing on, with no signs at all. You don't even get a chance to prepare yourself for the worst! I hope your heart heals fast

And please, dont stop taking in unwanted gliders. They need people like you. If they are going to pass on, atleast they can pass on happy and content with you! [/]

Oh My Gosh... That is so sad. I have taken in several rescues myself, and I alllways worry something like this is going to happen. You have such a compassionate soul to take in these little lost babies. I hope that your heart won't be heavy with this sadness for long. The rest of the unloved ones need you, so hang in there for them...

There's nothing to say that hasn't been said except remember Shmi will be watching over you, from the Bridge. ((hugs)) to you and Smegal May your hearts heal quickly

I'm sorry hun. I know what it feels like to loose a glider. When I got Eddie, we became so attached to each other, he hardly paid attention to his mate and he became like a child to me and when he died... it put the whole family on edge.

My first real post here on GC was about Eddie's death and I have found some of the most caring and understanding people here.

Remember you are giving gliders a second chance by taking them in and showing them love. Sometimes it hurts, but look at how many you've helped!

I'm so sorry you lost Shmi. You sound like a great human mom. Try not to give up on rescues. I know it hurts when they pass away, but they give us so much. If only there weren't so many rescues to care for! People really need to be more responsible. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sure Shmi is happily playing in glider heaven and waiting for you.

With Sympathy,
Polgara

Oh, what more can I say? I am so terribly sorry. My heart aches with yours. I pray time will help ease your pain, and that you continue to keep your heart open to rescues and more glider love.
