#198941 - 01/11/07 07:24 AM Zoomed's crickets and grasshoppers UPDATED

I know there has been a lot of question about the grasshoppers and crickets, so I e-mailed Zoomeds about the bedding used for both, and here's the reply I got:

Most crickets are raised in cricket barrels to keep them from coming into contact with foreign insects etc. They are fed a mix of fresh fruits, vegetables and a grass based pellet diet prior to being cooked in the can (retorted). If I can assist with any other questions please let me know.

I did reply to ask if corn was used as bedding, but never got anything back. I'm thinking about trying again. Either way, it sounds a little nicer than how I usually see them at pet stores, and at least they aren't just feeding that generic cricket feed stuff you see in jars. Anyone else get any other info?

Thanks for emailing the company. I would really like to know if you hear back from them about the bedding they use.

I've never been able to get an answer out of them and neither have several other people, as to whether or not they use corn bedding dunno It's almost like they are trying to hide something..

Alright, I finally got the response on the use of corn bedding for crickets and grasshoppers-

The answer would be no to that question. Most crickets are raised in barrels that do not allow them to come into contact with any unnatural outside insects etc. If you have any further questions please let me know.

sounds like they are ok to use!

clap Thank You so much for taking the time to find this out. I have wondered about that! I have been giving my two grasshoppers, but have been afraid of giving them the crickets.
