I have read about it and tried to figure out how you do it but I can't figure it out! How do you pocket train them?

I pocket trained Brodey a while back, but have since switched to bra training... Pocket training isn't hard. I did it by putting Brodey in my shirt pocket, then cupping my hand over the pocket until he calmed down and went to sleep. I never buttoned him in the pocket and I only put him in the pocket after he had already fell asleep in his cage...

I know some people have also put one of their shirts with pockets in the cage and let them get used to it that way.

Most suggies seem to like a pocket. After they are asleep, just gently lift them out of the cage pouch and put them into your pocket and wear them for several hours throughout the day. Offer treats while they are in the pocket too, this helps them associate good things with the pocket. It also helps to take a fleece blankie from the cage pouch and put it in the pocket with them, this way the pocket has a familiar scent. One of the cutest pictures I have is of Alexander peeking out of my pocket. My gliders often peek out, but they rarely try to leave the pocket unless it is getting close to playtime and they need to relieve themselves. Some of my gliders seem to prefer my bra, some seem to prefer the less restrictive confinement of my pocket, both work great for transporting suggies around during the day. Though I would not go out in public with my gliders just in my pocket, I prefer a more secure place when we are outside, but it is great for at home.

Hanging a shirt in the cage so that they sleep in the pocket at night, as Peggy suggested, has worked for some.

i'd like to have some sort of pocket setup where i could indeed go in public with my suggie in my shirt pocket. i have some fruit of the loom pocketed t-shirts & i think it would be cool if they had a lil window on them (so suggie can get some air & can see out), but also would need some sort of zipper, velcro, buttons or snaps in order to keep my suggie from escaping. (a) have u seen any product like this? (b) AwesomePossums: u mentioned that u've never buttoned your sugar in your pocket. r u simply making note of that, or r u mentioning that fact because there's a problem with buttoning them in? i know it seems restrictive, but is it any more restrictive than putting them in a zippered pouch? (c) the easiest step would probably be putting velcro on my pocket. without a window i would think their air supply would be too restricted in the pocket. what do u think? if this was such a good idea, i'd think there'd be products like this being sold left & right & i haven't seen up with any on the internet so i think that might be a sign. agreed? agreed that i "think" too much?

here's my last question: my suggie sleeps in a tri pouch. often when i try to pull her out of her pouch she clings to the pouch & i can't get her out (maybe i could do so if i got real rough with her but i don't do that). i struggle with pulling my big hand (with her in my hand) out of the lil window of the tri-pouch. i guess it would be easier if she was in a regular pouch, but she just loves her tri-pouch. any suggestions?

Thanks bunches

i know they have some pocket shirts with a button to close with, i havent seen any with a peekabo thing, but if you find out what material it is used from i dont see why you couldnt make one, as long as the pocket on the shirt is big enough.just an idea

Is it okay to pocket train if your suggie is not yet bonded to you? I would think they would easily escape.

I would never try to restrict a glider in a pocket. It's just such a small space... A pouch at least has some room to move around. Maybe my gliders are big (but I don't think they are). Only 1 glider can fit in a pocket at a time and for some of them it's a squeeze. That verses a pouch that I can easily fit 4 gliders into...

Glidinggraceful, pocket training can actually be a part of the bonding process. When I began putting my first glider in my pocket, I would put the shirt on wrong side out, so that the pocket was on the inside against my skin. I would put my glider in the pocket and go about my daily household activities. This got the glider accustomed to my movement, the noises in the house, my voice, and kept her surrounded by my scent. Over time I began to just stick her in my pocket with the shirt on correctly, she was comfortable with the pocket, so other than occasionally sticking her head up to peek out she didn't feel the need to go anywhere.

I also use the hand warming pocket of my hoodies for suggies when the weather is cooler. They love it in there and I can carry several gliders at once.
