Ok I had my first glider Angel for about 4 months. She was the best. At night I would let her sleep in my bed with me. eventually she would roam around a bit, but she would come back when I called for her. She would at least bark back so I could find her. One morning I noticed that my door was open when I woke up. I always closed it securely so she would not escape my room. I live with my brother and he must have opened my door to borrow some clothes that morning. He left the door open when he left.
I called for angel but she did not answer. I of course went to the Leu to brush my teeth and freshen up as I do every Morning.
This is the terrible part. To my horror I found her drown in the leu. She must have escaped after my brother and found her way in there. She was unable to get out due to the hard surface and high bowl. I take great care now with Gabe, and I still fell awful telling this story. I just wanted to warn any other would be adventure gliders.

That is so sad. []http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/sad.gif[/] I too had lost my glider but from a hypoglycemic seizure. This story should be in Real Stories forum, not cute stuff but hopefully one of the moderators will see this and move it there...Good luck with your Gabe and be very careful.
I used to let my first glider roam around at night by himself but then after reading many horror stories of gliders that run around loose at night unsupervised, I don't let them run around unless I'm there to watch them. Just a word of advice but you may already be aware of this. Take care! []http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/images/icons/blush.gif[/]
Tessa~~~~~~~~ []http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/heart.gif[/]

Thats really sad. i have been sleeping with my glider for about 6-7 years. he sleeps in my bed with me under the quilt and he comes and goes as he pleases just liek a cat or a dog would that is house trained. i live by myself though so i always know he is safe and no one can let him out. i sometimes call out to him at night if hes been out of the bed too long and he answers me back so i go back to sleep but since joinging glider central and reading about the toilet thing i have always closed the bathroom door and made sure the lid of the loo stays down. my glider weighs like 640 grams though (lol) so hes like a big fat guinea pig sleeping in my bed in comparison to your little guys. i dont advise it as they are so little over there and its not a good idea letting them roam the house when you live with other ppl. i would like to ask though, why is it gliders go straight for the toilet? there seems to be so many stories of it, whats the attraction to it?

So sorry to read about your Glider. []http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/sad.gif[/] I know the pain of lossing a furried loved one. It's always so sad.
Pip... the attraction to the toilet. This is probably a real plain and simple answer, but I feel it's true. I think they just get thirsty and are attracted to the toilet because of the water.
We(my brothers and I) once had a not-so-lil piglet, Fat Albert. While we were gone one day, he escaped the fence and was running around, guess you could say hog wild! []http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/images/icons/wink.gif[/] Anyhoo, he became thirsty and in his quest for water, he toppled himself into a 10 gallon pail. []http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/sad.gif[/] He was only trying to quench his thirst, but in the mean time, he lost his life.
I hoped that helped to shed some light on your question. Sometimes the answers are so simple, we don't even think of them.
Deb []http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif[/]
and my Possums []http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/images/icons/blush.gif[/]'s

I'm sorry about your glider, too. When it is with one so small it is usually us who live and learn, and we all do.
There may be another attraction to the toilet. In dim light from a high vantage point, it looks like an object with a small dark hole in it. Irresistable to a curious glider, and they can't see the water. Since the edges are so slick, attempting a safe landing on the edge without sliding in would be nearly impossible.Curiosity may kill the cat, but it's done in a few gliders, too.
