Okay, so I've posted on my incredibly frustrating male before, but here goes again. lol.

Versai was neutered the beginning of April. So I've had Versai (Daddy), Aspen (Mamma) and Sophie (their only child, lol), in one cage together until I put Sophie and a new female together (which should be too much longer, but we're not quite ready YET).

Well anyway... Tonight will be the third time that I've seen Aspen and Versai successfully mating since his surgery, and it worries me. He still scents. His head gland comes and goes. And he's still VERY much interested in mating. Which is just fine with Aspen. (I DON'T want her having any more joeys, but if she did, at least she's old enough too at 5 years old). But it's Sophie that I'm worried about. She's only five months old, and much too young for that sort of thing, but probably just old enough to intice her Father to move on to her next when he's had his fill of Aspen. (Not a pleasant thought, I know, but something that I'm forced to think about)...

So anyway, I panic, and not knowing what Versai will decide to do overnight while I'm not watching...I somehow always decide to let him vacation in a neighboring empty cage for a night or two. (Which I ALWAYS feel bad about... but Aspen has never really enjoyed mating anyway, and it's almost clear that she's relieved, lol, and Sophie doesn't have to cower and hide in the corner all night long).

I don't even know what my question is... lol. Other than, maybe... What would YOU all do? Keep them together? Seperate them for a couple nights until the mating isn't an issue? Track down my vet and hog tie her and ask her if she really knew what she was doing? I just don't know. I can only hope I'm doing the right thing...

Lately, either my mind is playing tricks on me, or my fears are coming true... but Aspen HAS been showing some classic signs of pregnancy. So was she holding? Did Versai's neutering go horribly wrong? Is he still potent? Will he go after Sophie? Could Sophie get pregnant? How detrimental to her heath and sanity would this be? Am I just thinking too much?? lol. All right, enough with the rambling. Time for Bed. lol. Thanks All. LuvAmes...

Hi there

Just went through this same scenerio with Cheetos (neutered March 31, 2004) My vet advised that he can still be fertile up to 3-4 mos after surgery. As for the mating ritual, Cheetos still has the hots for his girl, Miss G, and goes through the motions of romance. Those guys just never get it out of their system. Anyhoo, 5 mos after surgery, Miss G is not preggo, so Cheetos must be shooting blanks.

As for the bald spot, Cheetos' has almost closed completely. But, he still goes through the motions of marking Miss Gizmo and their daughter, Sophie, who lives with Mom and Dad. Sophie was only 3 mos OOP when we had him neutered. Our vet said she was too young to mate and not to worry about the possibility of dad and daughter getting together. Cheetos never made any advances toward Sophie, other than his usual marking of his daughter and being protective of her.

So, it sounds like your little guy is perfectly normal to me. Let's see what other members say about their experiences; it will be interesting to see the responses.

My vet said the same thing about the 3-4 months of fertility for the male after neutering, but as for the marking behavior and the mating behavior, I wouldn't expect it to ever go away. I have an adult male that was neutered well over a year ago and he still rubs his chest and head on everything he can get to (particularly if my other male has been anywhere near it recently) and regularly 'mates' with his girl when she goes into heat (if she will let him). His bald spot on his head went away, but the one on his chest has never disappeared, but still--no babies.

My neutered male still wants to mate, but is not successful. I don't think I've ever seen his penis exposed since the neutering, so although he tries, he can't.

lol ThankYou Guys SO much for all your replies. I am probably just worrying for nothing...and he's probably only attempting, but not succeeding.

And do you all think that Sophie is safe for another month or so? I have her a cage buddy already, but I'd like her to get used to ME before she has to get used to a new glider too. lol. Anyway, hopefully we will be ready soon soon soon.

Thanks Again! Luv Ames!

Amy, hmmmm. I would think after this amount of time, she would not be pg, even if holding. But, I guess.. it could be possible. As for him continuing to mate, well.. the the fixed human man I know continue to mate as often as possible after they have been snipped, so I wouldn't think you'd see a change in that behavior. I wouldn't think he'd go after Sophie this soon, but again, I don't know.

What I really felt the need to post is on your comment

Quote:

What are you talking about? How much more of you can she get used to? You hand fed her for months, made her do weekly photo shoots her whole life, traveld across states with her living in your bra, hello? Are you waiting for her to start communicating with you through sign language? Because I think that is that last thing I think the two of you need to master.

Well, whatever you chose, I am sure Miss Sophie will be happy, she has you for a mom doesn't she?

Alicia... no no no, silly girl. I want Sophie's CAGEBUDDY to get used to me... not Sophie herself. Goodness, yeah, I don't think poor Sophie could GET any more used to me after everything we've shared. lol. But her new little sister... Miss Memrie... has only been her one week today, and she and I have a long way to go...

ANYway, I will stop worrying about crazy Versai. lol. I put him back in with his Girls last night, and he tried mating with Aspen all night long and drove her completely crazy, but hopefully everyone is right and he's just going through the motions. Time will tell... but I'll stop taking him out of there, and stop all that worrying. lol. ThankYa! Luv Ames...

Miss Memrie is there? What, no picturs? Ok, it all clearer now. I was thinking you were talking about Sophie. Maybe today I am the blonde. I re-read it, and I am slow today.

YupYupYup Alicia, My Memrie Girl is Here Indeed. She's just a little crankier than I was expecting, so we've been taking bonding steps down that bonding road.... I may have to break down and use that fancy sissy pouch after all. lol. Oh No! lol. ANYway, no worries on the blonde moment. Happens ALL the time. hehee. And I have been tempted to share Memrie with the World in pictures... maybe I can get that done tonight. Talk Soon, SillyOne. LuvAmes...
