My female glider recently gave birth for the first time to two male joeys. They are about one and a half weeks OOP. I'm a little worried because both of their penises aren't retracted. Is this normal for young joeys? I've been looking for pics or information, but I can't seem to find any.

I have a male and There suppose to retract. They can get dried out and cause SM or other problems. But I'm not really sure though for them because there so young. Some one else will come along and help you later.

Hey! My twins are the same age, & I was wondering the same thing...it's not bright red like Rocco's, but it does look to always be out...I wondered if it only appeared that way because they haven't quite got fur yet (I hope that doesn't sound as ridiculous as I think it does!) So far it doesn't seem to cause any problems, & Naoshi & Rocco still express the joeys bladders so I've not been TOO worried, but I know it's a problem in males that are juvenile or adult.
Info? Anyone?

[:"green"] I think you may be confusing the cloaca with the penis. Sugar gliders have only one orifice that is the aperture for the reproductive system, urinary ducts and alimentary tract—this orifice is called a cloaca. When joeys are first born (male or female), the cloaca has an extended part that is the same color as the rest of the cloaca. This is so that the parents can stimulate urination & bowel movements. I was also confused by this with my first joeys, but soon learned that this is normal. As the joey gets older, the long portion of the cloaca will gradually start to go away. Also, because the males & females both have this extended part, it is easy to mistake females for males - make sure the joey has testicles to verify that it's a boy. If it has a small, heart-shaped ball where the belly-button would be on a human, then it's a boy. If it has a small slit (the pouch), then it's a girl.
Hope this information helps you out![/]
