Hey, I am new to the male glider world and I was just wondering how old should the boys be before getting them neutered? What's normal? dunno Thanks!

You can neuter as soon as the pom drops. Which is usually around 4 months. Some vets won't neuter until they are 6 months.

Thanks for the super quick reply! I think he was OOP in February, so he still has a ways to go then. Cool dealie. smile

Are you talking 4-6 months old or OOP? I was told the absolute latest I wanted to get Tas neutered was 4 months OOP to prevent inbreeding. But some vets won't do it that early?? Just wondering, I think mine will... (I hope!)

There will actually be no chance of inbreeding because my girls are from completely different breeders/cities. BUT I myself am talking about OOP dates... is that the page that we're all on?

I do 4 months, sooner if the poms are full and the vet will do it. I have had babies from 5 month old males :O (sneaky guys) AND we just had 2 more volunteers OOP this week so I am right here with you smile Neuter neuter neuter * I think all males should be fixed, sorry guys*

Awesome. I'm glad I've had all these responses. I'm kinda clueless with the boys. I've only had girlies thus far, so I need all the clues I can get about the male fuzzers. smile

Yes, we are talking about 4 months OOP... some vet's won't do it until 6 months, but by then it may be too late frown The most important thing is to make sure that the testicles have dropped down into the scrotal sac before the male is neutered...

Thanks Suz! smile

I'm going to take him in to the vet ASAP when I get him. The current owner acts like he's suffering from stress, so I'm going to do everything I can to deal with that first. After that, we'll definately keep an eye on his little gems to make sure the girls won't be in any danger of getting prego. smile That's the last thing I want to do! He's going to do alot more bonding with mom and dad than with the girls until he's fixed-ola.
