#2849 - 01/11/02 12:09 AM Babies killed mother from inside pouch?

I'm not sure how to explain this: I came home this evening to find my female (who just yesterday was completely normal) lying on her back at the bottom of the cage with one of her small babies lying dead beside her, and the other clawing at her from the inside. She was all but dead, and the young one was detached from the nipple and so far down the pouch I couldn't get to him, though I think any effort to save him would have surely been in vain, he was still quite small (about the size of the first knuckle on the pinkie). My question is what in God's name happened, and what could I have done? There were NO signs whatsoever to indicate illness. This is terrible. Very shocking.
[ 01-11-2002: Message edited by: Bryan_T ]

About the only way to know why is to have had a necropsy done on the body of your glider that died. Sometimes there are signs inside the cage area itself which would include the diet being fed. Where is Dad? He should be seen by a vet ASAP even if he looks OK.
So, so sad.
[ 01-11-2002: Message edited by: YipYip ]

What type of diet was she on? Where was the Dad?
I am sorry for your loss. To have to lose them all at once must have been terrible.
