I received a phone call today from a memeber that requested that I post her story. SHe is very hurt and just cannot post right now but wants everyone to know how her glider died due to an accident.
Her glider was secure (she thought) in her cage and has been for awhile. When she went to check on the gliders she found the little girl missing. They searched all over the room and any place they could look. They found her..... On the very top shelf there was a gallon of spring water that had a loose lid on it and the glider had gotten into it and drowned.
She would like all to know how responsible she feels. This is an accident. It just goes to show that leaving a bottle or a glass or anything they can get into with water in it can cause the death of a glider.
Who would have thought that a glider could get into a small very small opening like the top of a spring water bottle?
She hope's that this will help others in really glider proffing thier glider room.
My love and thoughts and prayers go out to her.

Love and kindness is a gift. Use it freely....

I am sorry for the loss of your little one and it is very said. This is definitely an accident. They are little escape artists and sometime these tragic things happen. It is not the fault of the owner. The loose lid--who would have thought a glider could even open a lid? I would not think so, but it did happen. Who would of thought a glider could fit through such a small opening? No one! It is just a series of unforeseeable circumstances that no one could have really prevented. It must have been horrifying finding her. I can only imagine how depressed you must have felt. I am truly sorry to hear about this but I am glad that this posting will help other people. I am going to re-examine the room where my gliders are housed and remember to check the cage after they retire for the night. This post has already made me think and I am sure other people will think more deeply tonight as well. Losing her life was not in vain and you should take comfort in that. Who knows how many glider's lives will be saved because of this one post. I am going to check on my guys now. Whoever the owner is--THANKS! Thanks for conveying this information to others even in your sad time. This was a selfless act and shows great kindness. May God bless you and your departed little one. He must have needed a little angel in pet heaven. She already had one set of wings and now she will have another.
John (Squirrelboy) (Rocky & Adrienne)
[ 02-04-2002: Message edited by: PepPony ]

Thats a sad story, and I thank you for posting it, I went into my gider room and realized I had left a glass of water sitting in the room, that I used to water my mealworm ranch, and it was fairly full, it reminds me just how fast an accident can happen!! []images/icons/shocked.gif" border="0[/]

O my....this is a tragic accident. My heart goes out to her. Who would have ever thought a water bottle. Sometimes I get so scared, not realizing all the possibilities of possible accidents. I am rambling...sorry...I just feel so bad. There is a glider heaven...and another angel is among us. My thoughts are with you.
Karin

How tragic. My heart goes out to the owner. We've all made some mistakes at one time or another, but that does not mean you are to blame.
Thanks for sharing this and reminding us to be extra cautious.

Something to keep in mind for those that don't already know, but please, please use a rule of thumb to check and double check your areas.. A glider may be able to get through a whole that is as small as your index finger at the knuckle, and definitly into a space a big as your thumb.. so please double check all those places you haven't already..
Ellen, please send the member my sincere condolences.

OMG how horrible. I am so sorry that this happened. Talk about a freak accident. I am sure that the other glider angels were all there to meet her. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers in this time of sorrow. Thank you for posting this as it will save a lot of lives.
