I was bonding with my gliders, Oliver and Addison. They were in my bonding pouch around my neck. I was outside in my yard going to my work shop and out of no where oliver came out of the pouch and ran across my yard. I searched all day and could not find him. I put nesting boxes everywhere I could around my yard praying he would curl up in one to stay warm.He had never done this before and he is really tame. Two days later, my Saint Bernard was crying and barking outside. When I looked it was Oliver! Covered in birdseed. He had been in my bird feeder. I took him inside he was covered in dirt etc. and very dehydrated. I gave him pedialyte and BML which he took immediately, called my vet and took him in. He was 100% by evening. I gave him a bath and he acts like nothing ever happened.I don't think I have ever been so scared in my life and heart broken over the thought I could of lost him.I just want everyone to be extra careful when taking gliders out in the world. I know how lucky I was this time.
[ 02-18-2002: Message edited by: Macintire9 ]

I am so glad you found him, and I know that your heart must have been in the pit of your stomach when he went scampering across the yard.
Better give that dog and extra treat for alerting you []images/icons/grin.gif" border="0[/]
Hopefully, people will read your post and take your words to heart. There are just so many things we need to be careful of, aren't there

Macintire9--Thank goodness there was a happy ending to this story. So many times there is not. I guess that man's best friend happens to be a glider's best friend as well. I would cook that St. Bernard a big steak and thank the owner. This would make a great story for a pet magazine!
John (Rocky & Adrienne)

I know it, like all the animals in my house, they are so spoiled rotten. But yes, Buddha was never kissed so much after Oliver was taken care of. I couldn't even believe my eyes. I sorta started to morn for him and tried to tell myself he was gone forever and then there he was. I almost couldn't believe my eyes! He was so dirty, scared and so dehydrated. I totally blamed myself. I mean what was he thinking... where is my mom? He bounced back so quickly and I am so lucky. I do realise that. I want to take my gliders with me to bond with them but now I am so scared to. I love them so much and I can't ever feel like I did with this incident. Can anyone tell me where I can get a more secure pouch? I have one with a draw string and one that has a flap.I have several gliders that I work with that I spoke of in earlier posts. I give them equal time during the day with bonding. So, to give everyone the time they need for bonding I have to either use the pouch during the day or quit my job...Hmmmm I wish...

Macintire9--There are several excellent pouch makers in this forum. You can go to the Classified section and see several there. I would be happy to e-mail you the information as well. I am so happy for you. What an emotional see-saw that must have been!
John (Rocky & Adrienne)

You must be so relieved! I lost a hamster a year ago in my house and I woke up to find my cat dropping it on my pillow! Sometimes animals really do amaze you. Your dog is a hero. Your glider was probably so scared and that's why he didn't really stray. Last night I was cleaning out Tuba's cage and he was in my shirt. I had all his pouches and toys on my couch and my cat was sleeping at the other end. I go to pat him and he's not in my shirt! I was [censored] out and then I glance at the cat - still sleeping. Then I see a little head poke out of his pouch that was on my couch...whew! I didn't even realize him getting away and finding his bed! They really are amazing...I am glad you posted this story b/c I actually wondered "What if I were outside?"...

It's funny how resourceful our little guys are. You would never know by looking at him. He is fat and sassy as usual. He is probly like mom why do you keep fussing with me? It's like nothing happened to him.
