Do sugar gliders get more crabby when they are pregnant??? My glider has been really grumpy lately. She has been crabbing when I try to hold her or pet her close to her pouch. She is very tame and she hasn't crabbed at me or bit me in a long time but last time I tried to look at her pouch she bit me. She also has been licking around her pouch alot when I take her places in her bonding pouch for a couple of weeks.

Well if you think shes pregnant or know for sure that could be a good reason.

Does she play and eat normally?

Syd has been pregnant twice now. I think she has mood swings. Some nights she will run and play like normal but the farther along seh gets the more she will just sit and want me to hold her..and sometimes she just wants to sit in my pocket alone.

I am not sure if my glider is pregnant yet. She has been playing less than she usually does at night.

A good clue is you will see a little bump start to form looks kinda like a cotton ball stuffed in the pouch. Syd would also play, run, and stop and pull her pouch apart w/ her hands to clean it..and that tipped me off. Once I was able to see the lump If I looked close I could see the little heart beating but you have to be very still.

IF you suspect shes pregnant you can wait it out. If you have doubts I would say a vet check is in order.

Not sure if this works for anyone else. When my glider is in the last couple of weeks of having her babies in her pocket she doesnt like anyone touching her belly, not even me. But I am sneaky, I take yogurt drops and feed her threw the cage, so her belly is flush against the wire and I can look to my hearts content to make sure everything is ok. I would most definatly try to see though if she has any lumps. If you cant see any lumps, look carefully to see if there is anything else unusual, like pinkness, loss of fur, or something that could indicate an irritation. If that is the case, I would take her to the vet to make sure she doesn't have anything wrong with her. Just my 2 cents, I am sure those more knowledgeble then me will come along with their advice as well. ^_^

Yep that works for me too. And syd sleeps on her back and so when shes fast asleep I can pull a leg aside and see the "lump" move...lol I should name my baby peanut..

[:"green"]Some females get grumpy and others don't - just like us humans . Try holding her against your chest with her feet downwards, then gently lift her under her arms with your thumb, cradling her back with your fingers, while keeping her feet on your chest. In this way, she can't pull away from you quite so easily so you can get a better look at her pouch. If you gently rub her belly, you might be able to feel a slight, pea-sized lump before it actually is visible - you have to be very careful in doing this though! If still in doubt, bring her to the vet for a check-up. She may be grumpy because she's sick or fighting an infection...
Good luck [/]

like others have said, some do and some don't. Phia will get very protective of her sleeping pouch once her joeys are hanging oop and that lasts for about a week. But other then that she is fine.

Just a word of caution... if you decide to rub her belly to check for lumps be VERY careful. You don't want to dislodge the babies from the nipple. They cant re-attach when they are so young. So very very very careful when you check.
