IS it possible for a female to develop a bald patch for scenting.

Ive had my gliders for over a year and they have had 3 litters of Joeys so I know she is a female.

I was looking at her today and noticed her fur wad damp on the top of her head and that it appears she might be starting to loss some fur off of the damp area.

She might had just run under the water bottle and wet her fur down so I plan on keeping an eye on her.

Is this something I should be really worried about and should I possibly get her to the vet tomorrow?

Thank you

If it was just from the water bottle it should go away rather quickly. If it doesn't go away it's possible that she may be overgrooming. In that case I would take her to the vet just to make sure everythings ok.

Upon rare occasion a female will develop a slight bald spot where the scent gland develops on the male. It's due to an overproduction of testosterone, just like some women develop a "beard" or "mustache". Keep a close eye on it to make sure that it's not actually due to overgrooming, but if it appears damp at times, then it's just the development of the scent gland. I can't remember who else posted about this with their female - but her glider was perfectly healthy... hopefully whichever member it was will come along and post as well smile

Good to know, I will keep an eye on her. I'm thinking about running her up to the vet teaching hospital tomorrow just in case to make sure everything is ok.

I just woke up to a moronic thought, my last joey, i thought male, went to his new papa last week. Now I find it unlikly I would have mistaken which glider my baby girl was, but how young do the males develop their bald patch, cause heaven forbid I switched them, I checked to make sure there was not furry package below the belt, but I now don't remember when the young males develop those either....

I might be a very bad glider parent if I did that... I am still in touch with the papa of the baby so I can contact him immediately if I made such a mistake but I wanna make sure Im sure before I do something like that.

Joeys come out of pouch with their scrotal sac, although it is only the size of a small pea. They don't develop their bald spots until usually at least 3 months oop either... Check her when you get home to make sure she has a pouch slit instead of a sac, then you'll know for sure that it's still her, not the joey thumb

I'm pretty sure it was Jenny (FURBYnGIZMO) who thought for the longest time that one of her girls was a boy due to a bald spot wink

I recently posted about three of my females that had a little bald spot on their head. They are 100% healthy otherwise...there is still a faint patch of the bald spot but it's gotten less. I had recently got a new dog, so I figured they were either a little stressed by him or overmarking because of him. They are doing fine now...here is a pic that I attached.

Hmm... no sac, I dont believe, Im gonna try trying a picture if I can get her to stop tearing up my hands.

I'm pretty sure this is my lil girl and Christine's picture looks similiar to what I have going on.

Not sure what could be stressing her out, other then the removal of the joey but he was her third litter and stayed with her for about 12 week oop. Nothing else has changed in the last few weeks.

BTW outragious prices for vets around here.... the vet teaching hospitla is the only exotic dr in town and they want $93 glider for a wellness check, might as well drive the hour into denver for a more inexpesive dr...

Have you tried drying the fur? or moving it around at all to actually see if the fur is missing or just moved? When its just a scent gland, I believe ther fur is just pushed down not necesarilly missing.

roflmao Becki, Suz is not loosing it!

She knew it was me and sent me a IM to check this post grin

Didn't get to GC 'til now but YES it was definitely me loosing it at the time blush all confused with my little ones bald spot tounge

Furby and Gizmo came from a pet shop when I didn't know better...but I didn't, don't or ever will regret my first two babies! cloud9

I LOVE THEM TO DEATH! heart

I was told Furby was a girl and Gizmo...well a BOY and I was so excited to see a bald spot come in thinking my baby is maturing ooo

shakehead NOT! When she started one day to make noises very much like a a glider SM'ing I rushed her to the vet only to see the vet look very puzzled inspecting her and comparing her, stretching and moving fur until much to my surprise (and hers)...the tiniest pouch opening we had ever seen shock

The SM sound was her coming into heat! After a few more heat spells the bald spot slowly but surely faded due to the fact it was very much as Suz stated...all due to an overproduction of testosterone!

She still has issues when she goes into heat and is the only one of my girls I could clearly see and hear in heat but PERFECTLY HEALTHY!!! dance
