I'm making toys for myself and to sell. First, what kind of glue and paints or color stains (for wood) is safe for glider toys.
Second, how the hek do you do the coconut.. cut..Dry? Scrape out?
Thanks

I don't know about stains, but I'd imagine that you could use non-toxic child safe glue & paints. As for the coconut, I have no idea how they do the whole one. Go to www.orientaltrading.com They have a Luau (sp?) party section, there's natural coconut cups there that would probably work! Plus, if you take the time to look around, they have tons of stuff to use for glider toys!

I know a lot of people use koolaid to stain wood for bird toys; maybe food coloring too?

I'm going to be looking at this sort of thing soon, too - non-toxic glues, especially for fabrics. Seems like a viable alternative to dangerous snaggy threads.

I would not suggest any type of paint or stain on wood as the gliders can chew on them and injest it. Food coloring would probably work. (koolaid is just favored food coloring)
Can't help with the coconuts as I buy mine already cleaned.

I buy large coconuts, get a hole saw (little cup on a bt w/ jagged teeth), cut a pretty desent size hole, scrape out, and clean thoughly. I them drill 2 holes in the top, add a "u" bolt w/ the nuts inside at the very top...and add chain link w/ a clamp to attach to cage. They love them. I need to find a bigger one...I feel bad for 4 fitting in a large coconut. They need to make a "super size".
