I can hardly type this... Sunday night I went to bed before my husband (I usually don't) and just let Holly and Chloe's cage open so they could get out when they woke up. They usually stay out about all night and run around in the bedroom. Anyway, I didn't think about my husband using the restroom before he came to bed and he forgot to close the toilet seat. Of course, I usually go behind him and shut it... but Sunday night I went to bed first. About 2:30 I woke up to check on them and couldn't find Holly...She had gotten caught in the toilet and drowned. I cannot stop crying. I feel so bad. I can't believe I did this. I can hardly stand my self right now. I don't know what to do for Chloe. I am spending all of my time with her. Last night she acted very scared, which is not like her at all. I don't know if I should go ahead and get another glider for her, or if I should wait awhile. I wish I could explain to her. How do I know if she is depressed? Are there any signs I should look for? When should I try to get her a new friend? I am so sorry for what I have done.

I'm so sorry. Don't blame yourself for his mistakes. Also don't hold it against him forever. My best friend caused me to lose my pet squirrel, and I didn't want to lose him too so I forgave him and went on with my life. It's hard to lose a friend, trust me, I've lost my share of gliders & squirrels.

I'm so sorry for your loss! It's so hard to lose these guys, they just have a way of breaking into our hearts & they always remain a part of them. There is a post here on GC about how to make a toilet ladder, I believe Hope (BMXgirl) posted it. I would go ahead & get Chloe a new buddy as she is likely to become depressed & if you find her one right away, you will have time for quarantines & proper intros. Again, I'm just so sorry!

I am so sorry... the loss of a glider is never easy. Yes, I'd go ahead and get Chloe a new buddy... In the meantime continue spending extra time with her.

Aww...so sorry to hear that...everyone makes mistakes, dont blame yourself, its so easy to forget something like that! I too would think its a good idea to get your chloe another glider pal I would think that would relieve some depression for her....Hang in there...

I am SO sorry to hear about holly. I would like to suggest a "glider ladder" as mentioned in a previous post. (Maybe someone else has the post saved or somesuch) It's a bit of 1/2 inch cage material set up in the toilet so they can at least climb onto it if they fall in. Makes me paranoid about my crew now. I'm keeping you and chloe in my thoughts. Oh and a new roomate would be a good idea.. just like evryone else has said.

It breaks my heart and brings tears to my eyes to read this...I know how you feel loosing your little angel,Holly . I remember loosing my first one just like it was yesterday, except...a cat got ahold of him.
My thoughts are with you and Chloe during this time. Give Chloe lots of love and kisses, and do explain to her...even though, she might not understand what you are saying...but, in your mind, you will know that you atleast explained what happened to Holly...it will make you feel better.
When Joey was dieing in my hands..I told him," to go ahead and cross that rainbow bridge and I promise that I'll take care of your family" as he held onto my thumb...he looked up at me, like he understood..and passed away.
So, explain it to Chloe...she just might understand.
I do hope that you do feel better, I'm so sorry that this had to happen to you.
Lots of glider love is being sent your way

I am new to posting, but I have been reading posts for about 10 days now. I am so sorry to hear about Holly. I adopted my adult glider 5 days before my husband and I had to put our 14 month old dog to sleep. She ate part of her bedding and it got stuck. Our fault, so I understand how you feel. You and Chloe are in my prayers.

Dont blame yourself! Accidents happen... even to the best of us. Im sure that you will love Holly forever, but dont let that stop you from letting another suggie into your heart. Good luck with the new addition. I will send out many prayers for you and Holly.

thank you to everyone for your love and prayers. It means more to me than you know. I am getting one of Split's babies. She will be ready 4/28. I hope that's not too long to wait. I can take Chloe to work with me, but am not sure if she would like that (for the company) or if she would rather stay home since she sleeps during the day anyway. I am just so worried about her.

That's so tragic... Do take care and I'm sure Holly knew you loved her! I'd recommend taking the other little one to work with you... some extra love wouldn't help especially in this time of loss. Take care!

i'm so sorry to hear about your loss. dont blame yourself, things can happen. i hope everything gets better. and to answer your question about any signs of depression, i may be wrong but i heard that they can lose hair from over grooming i think it was. and i was told that was because she had lost her mate. i hope this helps.

My heart goes out to you hun. I lost my very first glider, Loki, the exact same way. There are no words to describe the grief... Just know that you and Chloe will heal with time. And Holly watches over you I'm sure. *bighugehugs*
