Alrighty, I just got my babies on Tuesday night, and I asked the owner if they had ever had joeys, but he has only had them since December, said that he had never seen joeys. I asked him if she might have some in pouch? He said he had checked that morning. Well, last night, I was trying to get the female to stop biting me through the bars, she was on the side of the cage, her belly toward me, and I noticed two rather large lumps in both sides of her pouch. After watching for a short while the lumps moved/shivered! I can't imagine what it could be besides joeys, so hoorah for new additions! One bad thing though, the parents aren't even bonded to me yet and the female attacks me everytime I put my hand near her, so I won't be able to handle the joeys while they are with her, she'll probably try to chew my fingers off.

I forgot to mention...ever since I noticed I've been loading her with meal worms and am going to make her up a batch of dinner with some more chicken in it then usual...I hope it's not too late to give her the protein she needs...I'm not sure how long they have been in pouch, no more thena couple of weeks I think..I'm just worried that her lack of nutrition from the previous owner will make her eat them

The mother needs to be handled and the bonding process started with her now. Babies may be a month or so away from coming oop.

Tip: Never put your finger between the wire or on the cage with a glider inside the cage. It teaches them to bite....much like with birds.

Go to the bonding forum to get tips on how to bond with your gliders. If possible...purchase a pop up tent for $20 from Wal-Mart as it will help speed things along in the bonding deptartment so to speak.

Parents will not be totaly bonded to you...however this will help so you can handle the babies when little. Not handeling babies when little from untamed gliders...babies will not be tame as they will learn to distrust you from their parents.

Be prepared for some nips. Tip the nails befor you let the gliders out on you so you do not become scratched up. Older gliders do learn to bond with their owners...it just requires consistancy and patience.

Also..I am not sure what the diet is you are feeding. So...if not the BML diet plan then you need to be sure to add a good calcium supplement to the diet every night. Go to the diet Forum ....and others can help you in that area. Nursing mothers need a diet rich in proteins and calcium with low fat. Without it...more females die from HLP than males...due to the fact that raising little ones depleates the calcium in their systems quicker. Remember...mealies are high in fact and low in calcium so give only a few or so at nightly.

Congratulations on your new family and the little ones to come.

I'm feeding the Priscilla Price diet...oatmeal, apple sauce, wheat germ, orange juice, yogurt...some with chicken, some with scrambled egg. Also feeding equal parts of vegetables and fruits nightly, I sprinkle their food with vionate and rep-cal with every meal. Give the female about three-four mealies a night, the male is less interested in them, only about two mealies a night. They get gatoraid every other night and one yogie each a couple times a week, baby food turkey sticks nightly as a licky treat.
Every morning there is only a tiny bit of veg/fruits left over and a couple drops of the regular diet. When I wake up, I put in a little more then a table spoon of zookeepers and go to work.
Is there anything I'm missing? Something I should exclude or add?
Also, I'm getting them a much larger cage in a week...should I not move them since she has joeys ip??

The diet you are feeding is a good one so no problem with it.

As to moving them...wash the new cage down first. Do not change their sleeping pouch when you move them into the new cage for a week or so.

There is a risk of loosing the babies due to change of a new home for the first two to three weeks. So....should that happen...the pair will start over. However, there is a good chance she will do just fine. Just have to wait and see.

If I were you I would switch to Judies BML diet. I have always used it and my babies come out perfect and healthy.
