We've had Thelma and Louise for 3 weeks now and Louise is doing great. She will take mealies from us and even come and sit in our hand and ocassionally let us pet her. Thelma on the other hand isn't coming along quite so well. She is still terrified of us. She has only taken mealies from us 2 times, done licky treats a few times and she HATES tent time. She will shake the whole time and runs all over looking for a place to hide. We do keep a pouch in the tent for her to hid in if she wants, which she frequently does. She hasn't really gotten any better than the first day we had her. Should we keep doing tent time even though it seems to scare the [censored] out of her??

Also, is it ok to do tent time right when they wake up? I ask this because as I mentioned above Thelma is terrified of us and it is a pain getting her back in a pouch to take her to the tent. When we finally get her and put her in the pouch she crabs and bites REAL hard!! We both feel sorry for the poor girl and wish she would realize that we aren't going to hurt her.

When I do tent time, I take the pouch with them still sleeping into the tent then coax them awake with mealies.

Judge not until you have walked in their shoes and lived their lives. What you see online is only part of the story.

I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

Bottom line, she is very afraid . I suggest you take things alot slower with her....earn her trust slowly first, before attempting playtime. Your playtime may be setting what trust you have gained with her back. Stick with the bonding pouch and licky treats for a while, and then introduce playtime once you see her being more comfortable with you. She may not have had much human contact when she was younger, or her personality just may be of a timid nature. Keep in mind, eventually she will learn from her cagemate that you are really "ok" .

I would still do tent time with Louise though.

I'd have to agree with Karin...she's very afraid, & she WILL learn to trust you via Louise. Don't give up on her...she'll come around. Are they from the same parents? Are they the same age? did the come from a breeder or pet store? All of these are things that could be indicative of her behavior. None the less, gliders all seem to gain trust in their own time & certainly under their own terms, but it'll be SO worth it in the end!
Good luck, & keep us posted...

We did tent time again tonight (before I had read these responses) she did pretty good. She was playing alot instead of hiding. She was crawling on us but is still leary of hands, even with treats. She will sniff them then go away.
Hipbchick to answer your questions they are from different parents, they are like a week apart, and they came from a breeder. It's just so hard seeing her still so shy when Louise is doing so good. We are glad that tent time went better tonight. Ending tent time isn't fun either since she usually will start to go in the pouch then come back out so as soon as she gets in there we have to close it and she FREAKS out!!
