Hi, I've heard about different people using steamers to clean cages. I think it would work great to loosen the goo as well as sanatize the cage. My question is---what brands does everyone use? I'm thinking that some of them are going to be wimpy, wimpy; others are going to be over-priced and then some will be "just right". So weigh in and tell me what type of steamer you'd recommend before I go out and buy mine.

Wow. I never thought of a steamer, good idea! I use my pressure washer on low & soak down w/ sopy water, rinse it and sanitize w/ iodopher & water then rinse again. Pretty easy, using a sponge to do a once over wiping after initial soaking.....

I use a "Quick Steam." My mom got it at Tuesday Morning for like, 25 bucks. Pretty awesome, if you ask me. It takes a while for it to heat up and it goes through it's water store fairly quickly, but it's still quicker than scrubbing in the bathtub. And, no chemicals!

I have the Shark that costs about $100 in Lowes. I say that because I don't know what model it is, I just know it's a lot better than the cheaper one they make. It is really easy to use, gets hot enough to melt the goop, but no it doesn't melt the pvc coating. It is really super easy to use and a lifesaver in the winter when you can't take the cages outside to power wash them as often. There are quite a few people here who use the Shark also. I like it a lot.

NO, they do not melt the pvc coating as far as I know, but all my cages are powder coated which I like better.
I have the eureeka enviro steam. I got it off of eBay for not more than 40 i think and then a few shipping.. it was well worth it b/c I can clean my whole house with it too.

ooooh Harbor Freight rocks. What I do with my steamer is use it to loosen up all the stuff on the cages and some of the toys. i will steam the cage to sanitize it and loosen food and other things, then clean it with a mild cleaning mixture and steam it again

thanks guys I wanted one of these anyway- the lady who cleaned my house when we got it ready to sell (she's had surgery so isn't cleaning it anymore) has one.... and it was amazing what she was able to do with it.... so here is my excuse to DH to get it sooner... to use for the glider cage!
