I'm curious--in a wild glider's natural diet, what foods provide them with calcium?

No one really knows the answer to your question. There are theories about a glider getting calcium in the wild from bird eggs, insects, small reptiles, acacia gum, nectar, etc. It is doubtful that there is one source. It is also unknown how efficient the gliders system utilizes the calcium that it ingests. Since the gliders diet in the wild is seasonal the sources for calcium would also seem to have to be seasonal. Ern mentioned acacia gum and this could be one of the main sources because gliders seem to feed on a certain amount of acacia gum year round, even when other food such as insects is abundant.

Acacia is a plant that grows where gliders run rampant. Their most abundant source is Acacia Mearnsii (I prolly didn't spell that right) AKA Black Wattle. The gum is simply the sap that collects after they cut notches in the bark with their chompers. You can get powdered Acacia gum tons of places, try: www.exoticnutrition.com
