I've had my two babies Rocky and Tyson for over two years, and we get along great, but I'm going to college this fall and animals aren't allowed in the dorms. My dad told me that I might be able to keep them at his house, but I want to stay bonded to them, and I don't want to just abandon them... does anyone have any advice?
thanks...

well im moving out next month and my parents offered to take care of them while im away for college for a couple of years. im going to visit them but thats all i can really do..if u can keep them at ur dads do it becuz when u get back from college u can have them back..i know it will take time to bond with them again its just theres no other way for me unless i would have to give them away and i dont want that option to happen. so either u dont live in the dorms and have an apartment u can keep them with u other wise i dont think ur dads place is so bad as long as he takes care of them as good as u do.

How far away is your dad's place from the dorms? If it is not far then the situation will probbaly work out pretty well. You could visit them often and be there quickly in case of any emergencies. I would get started now though on acquainting your gliders with you dad. Since he will be the one caring and feeding them then he needs to know how/what to do and they need to know who he is. The problem that I do see you running in to, is your dad going to be able to spend as much time with them as you do? Like will he bond with them during the day and play with them at night? If he's willing to do that then you really owe your dad a huge because I know a lot of parents wouldn't want the responsibilty placed on them.

I did not get my gliders until I had moved out of the dorms and into my own apartment so I really don't know what else to tell you. I truly hope things work out for you and your gliders.

Think of it this way. You get to see them on breaks, and you only have to live in the dorms for one year. I am going into my senior year and have my own apt. My glider does great. I would say definately leave them with your dad or parents. Maybe you'll even get a cool RA who will let you get away with it. I had a zoo in my dorm and my RA just made me hide them in the closet during inspections. Also, you may meet some new people who already have their own place and they might be cool enough to let you leave them there... as long as it isn't a party house of course. :o) Hope things work out!

Honestly I'm not really sure what to tell you because like Krispifsu, I live in an off campus apartment with my two. I transfered so I never saw a need for dorm room living and my first two years were at a community college which didn't offer dorms so I pretty much commuted to school.

I think that the most important thing to remember in this situation is the welfare and happiness of the glider should come before anything else. In no way am I trying to insinuate that anyone here would not put them first, but just food for thought. Regardless of what an owner wants, what a gliders needs is more important.

Definitely so... although personally if it were me I would leave them with a trustable friend or relative until I were in a position to retain them. I'd prefer to keep them close to me whether we lived under the same roof or not and I can't imagine the position of having to find a place for them while I went to school as I've never had to deal with it. I got mine while living off campus so college and gliders hasn't really been a huge issue for me or them. I can imagine it's a hard thing to do but I feel for those who unfortunately are in that situation.

Thankfully, my dad only lives about 20 minutes from campus, so I should be able to visit them often, I'm not sure about the amount of attention they'll get though. He stays at home during the day with my baby brother.... I'll have to talk to him about carrying them with him. for the advice!
